RFA

Can anyone help me with this?
Mum has a 1cm mass left in her liver following a reoccurance and after 6 chemo sessions.
After searching the internet and posting a previous question on here about liver mass I heard about radio ablation.
I have contacted a Dr by email who has replied and will see mum if she gets a referral from her oncologist, trouble is her oncologist is really stubborn and keeps saying 'there is nothing no one can do'.
Can anyone help who has had this done?

Thanks

I have had 2 RFA's done to remove tumors from my liver. My gyn/onc told us that there was not anything they could do about the tumors in my liver, but my onc said yes there is. I was sent to what is known as an interventional radiologist, and he is the one who performed the procedure. It is very simple and just requires an over night stay in the hospital, with little to no pain. And it is my understanding that you can have this procedure several times because it causes no damage to healthy tissue, only the cancer. I hope that your moms onc will listen because there is something that can be done. The only drawback is that they want the tumors as small as possible and they do not want to do more than 2 or 3 at a time. And when i say as small as possible, i am talking under 3 cm, and your mom fits right in.
  Good luck in persuing this.

Hello ... Yes, I've had this done and was told by my doctor the same thing.   When I had a recurrence my gyn oncologist would not operate because when my cancer came back it was widespread.  He was devastated reading the PETCT to us.  He said that he speicalized in the pelivic area and would not touch the organs involved.  He encouraged me to find a second opinion.  Needless to say, I couldn't wait to run out of that office and get busy researching.  The cancer was on the Pancreas, Spleen, Liver, Upper and Lower Bowel etc etc etc.  I contacted Dr. Spirtos in Las Vegas and he performed a complete (not optimal) secondary cytoreductive surgery.  I traveled clear across the country.  He resectioned my Liver, Pancreas, Upper and Lower Bowels and removed all residual cancer.  He used the argon beam laser and the radio ablation on my liver.  It burns off the tumors.  After a very long recovery I just completed Gemzar/Carbo and I am in remission.  I am currently seeing my original doctor for my chemo treatments.  It took a lot of research to find someone that would operate on me.  I'm told I cannot have any more surgeries.  Let's hope I'll never need any !!!!!  My profile tells the details of my dx.  Hope this helps....Cindy
