How common is bowel obstruction with ovarian cyst?

Just wondering if any one has had this problem. And what kind of problem did you have before, during, and after surgery. My surgery has been reschuled for July 5th. Thanks for any feed back. You guys are great. Their are times I can't wait to log on and keep in touch.

For those of you having constipation - I found something that helped and I don't think many know about it!

I have been inundated with endometriosis and it's related problems for the past 6 years (had 5 laparoscopies, right ovary removed, too many cysts to count, and stage 4 endometriosis).

I was constipated for six months in 2008 taking laxatives as least as possible, just to get by. I had an appointment scheduled at the Mayo and they told me this was ok to do until I got there. It turns out I had "Pevlic Floor Tension Myaglia". This occurs when your pelvic floor muscle is too tight, and can prevent your feces from exiting.

I went to a very specialized physical therapist for two weeks, three times a day. With her help and the use of a biofeedback machine to monitor the activity of my pelvic floor muscle, I was able to get it to relax. It is the opposite of a kegel, they call them reverse kegel.

Here's a link to their website for more information: http://www.mayoclinic.org/constipation/

I hope it helps!!!

Hey peachy09, this original post is from 2006.  You may bet more responses if you start your own post.  Also, it sounds like you aren't sure what is going on.  You may want to post on the women's health forum.  If you have a cyst, there is an ovarian cyst forum, too.  This is the ovarian cancer forum.

Take care.  = )

i get occasional sharp twinges/gas-pain feeling only on my left ovary i keep telling myself that it's ovulation, but it never switches sides. constipation is also sort of a problem and it is hard to go.this pain in my ovary happens right after my period as well as mid-cycle. at mid cycle the "gas" pain spreads across my pelvic area. does anybody know what this could be?

My stools are very narrow, Ad I'm taking lactulose for a couple of different reasons. As much as I take you would think I would have very lose stool. Nope, nothing but narrow. We'll see after the surgery. Thanks everyone for your response.

HI you are right, left side ovarian problems more common for bowel issues and right side more common for bladder issues.

I have something on both my ovarys and the left one being a complex cyst which is wreaking havoc with my bowel ...changes frequently from const to dir and when it's almost normal it's flat like a yard stick ...strange sight I might add ...
But my MRI's show my ovary has attached itself to the bowel and there is definetly a small obstruction  so far ...between adhesions and the Complex cyst being aggravated and agravating ..by the time I get to surgery ( July 12 ) I may have a new organ  a CysaBow  lol  I dunno ...but it can sure hurt to the point I am nauseated 90% of the time and when I'm not nauseated I have gas or I'm dizzy ...also burping (NEVER DONE THAT B4 ..SO MY SON TOLD ME ) up some nasty bile tasting stuff ..
And the right side ( large cyst on ovary ) is having it's way with my Bladder ..Sometimes wish there was such a thing as the home decathetar..I would buy it ...right now I'm wearing out a path in my hallway to bathroom for one thing or another ..
My cat has my situation down ..he either jumps on my seat when i run to the BR or he waits at the BR door with a toy in his mouth ..figures since I'm in there all the time mays well play a few games ... :)
So ...to answer your question ..yes has /does happen ..with cysts /tumors and of course the glue that binds ..Adhesions.
One of our Cysters had it right though ..lots of fiber will help ..
Good Luck
Hugs ..Lex

I had pain during bowl movement before and after the surgery, but I think it also has to do with my hemorrhoid. I get this pressure pain during my bowl movement sometime, the weird pressure sensation goes all the way down my leg. Sometimes your stool would be narrow. Hope you dont have horrible hemorrhoid like me. It is a mess!! Prior to surgery I developed diarrhea for about 3 weeks. Then continued after surgery. However, I am eating some herbal fiber stuff which makes me go to the bathroom more easily. So I recommend eating lots of fiber stuff to the point you might develop diarrhea, it really helps you to clear out your colon if you suspect partial bowl obstruction.

If the cyst in on your left side, I know we all have a major portion of intestine located there and it coud easily put pressure on it.  Not sure about the right side.
