what a great idea!!!!!  Daughter {Leslee} went from 876 pre op  to 376 pre chemo  to 17  4th chemo   to 12 6th chemo  started ginger day after last chemo, she had CA125 drawn on Friday  will let you know hopefully tomorrow. Her ONOC told her chemo does not go into the bowel. The ginger will go throughout her body.  It has 2 cancer cell killers in it. We also got a ball to use to break up any adhesions.  Some surgeons use surgical netting on the left-over organs to keep them from forming adhesions. if anyone can help the medical field in their research and cures of cancer it will be groups like this. if you don't keep a written journal daily,  use word pad,  for an appointment, print it out and take it with you to the doctor. A "good" doctor will appriciate the info. It will help you also to remember what your questions are.  Leslee complains of "brain fog" so we talk a couple times a day and I am doing the charting for her at the present time.

I've just started the tea and green tea daily and my ca 125 is a 11.  I get another test right before christmas and another in Feb. Then we are going to see if there is a trend.

Good grief, at this point, facing a recurrence, I'll eat or drink just about anything anyone tells me to, if they think it will help. I went and saw a natropathic dr last week and this was a big step for me - I'm totally skeptical about these things! I told her that up front, and she appreciated my honesty and told me that anything she recommended for me, she would back up with some scientific evidence as to why I need it. I go back for my follow up this week, but the one thing she told me I could easily start now and should try to have several times a day, is Green Tea. I bought some and have been sucking it back by the glassful. It's disgusting, but I'll try anything! I'm going to ask her about the ginger when I see her and I'll let you all know how I make out.

As of two weeks ago tomorrow, my CA 125 is 18.  I do not have it checked again for two months.  I am already taking the ginger capsules, but I am not faithful to take them every day.  I am going to make an effort to take it according to package directions....2 pills twice a day, and when I get my CA 125 checked again next time, I'll see if it makes a difference for me.  The CA 125 assay my doctor uses is the one in which anything above 20 is high, so I really do want to see if I can get it lowered.  You all keep me informed on how it goes for you, and I will do the same.

Hey there Becky!  You do eventually get used to the taste of the green tea.  Even my kids like it now!  It is something that I always have in my house and I find that a nice hot cup does wonders for me in the evening.  You know that you are always in my prayers.  Godspeed

She told me to let it steep for 10min! Oh well, I'll try the splenda...
I wish that the CA125 test was good for me, but seeing as I now have a pelvis full of tumors and it never went above 18, It's obviously not. I guess CT scans will be the only way to track things.

Try some flavored green tea. I have one with orange something in it and then I add splenda and it is fine.  green tea gets bitter if you leave the tea bag in too long. I think they should only sleep for like 3-5 minutes.

I have been reading comments about green tea and ginger with interest. I drink green tea all the time(best when brewed for 2 minutes) and I also drink 'essiac' tea. Essiac is supposed to have remarkable healing properties and it is also good to take while undergoing chemo therapy treatment. I live in Scotland and obtain 3 months supply at a time. It has to be brewed and stored in the fridge but it is really no problem to make. I don't yet know if it is effective as I only finished my 6 treatments in February (after being diagnosed with stage 3c and undergoing successful surgery). My Ca125 was 19 in April and I don't know what the July result was yet as I don't see my Consultant again until next week.I could have phoned for the result in July but I didn't see any point in doing so because if it had been higher than 19 it would have been too soon to see if there was any trend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will not start to go up. This is a great forum and better than any other sites I have looked at. Am I the only person from the UK to take part - all the comments seem to be from Canada or the US. If anyone is interested in the Essiac go to eva.***@****

doctor at Mayo told us that chemo does not get the cells in the bowel.  So we asked and were told that ginger could get those by going through the intestinal tract. He could not reccomend it but told us to try it and chart any findings. All nutrients are absorbed into our systems through the intestine walls.  It has been released now that the FDA is being forced to look at natural additives and to report the findings of world wide tests.  Our  system has been ignoring anything that sounds like it comes from nature, although what the drug companies do is just duplicate it. Daughter is eating ginger cookies, drinking flavored ginger tea, green tea, and taking the ginger capsules 550mg 2 xs a day. I know it is a safe additive because my daughter in law was given ginger during her pregnacy for morning sickness and she delivered healthy twins. So far so good for my daughter,  her nausea and stomache cramps have stopped. She finished her 6th chemo last week. At this stage of the cancer game we will try anything that increases her chances for a complete recovery.

Hello CFK,

I am in the UK as well. Only recently started posting - diagnosed in June on my 26th wedding anniv. would you believe. Felt as fit as a flea until I filled up with ascites (malignant as it turned out) so it was a tremendous shock.
Have started consumming all things ginger - not a problem as I like it:)
Have just added post to the 'CA125 clarify results forum' which gives more detail about my treatment.
Good luck with yours!

Hi everyone. I take Ginger too. This recipe is so good. Juice a quart of carrots and a lime (with skin) and a big hunk of peeled ginger (according to your taste). I do organic (its readily available in Long Island, NY except hard to find with the Ginger). Now put that quart of juice into a blender and add a whole avocado. It is so delicious and good for you. The avocado is a good fat. I don't gain weight with it. That good fat keeps the sugar in the carrots from messing with your insulin levels. This gives you energy too. I drink the quart in a day.

I will have to add the capsules also. Ginkgo was one of the herbs to prevent ovarian cancer. (study done in Boson) I take that but not while I am on chemo cause it thins your blood. Good for the brain-my neurologist said I could take it.  I drink green tea but use the Chai Green Tea by Stash. Vitamin C. B, multiple are good. It goes on and on.

Best of luck to all and please let me know what supplements you're taking. I'm interested. Maybe make a new thread called supplements.

We are all partaking in the highest form of gambling. To see what chemo works. Meanwhile if it doesn't we're hurting ourselves even more. I believe supplements help keep the body healthy while we do this but you have to watch out for interactions.
:)Helen
