I am 48 years old and diagnosed with adult granulosa sex cord-stromal tumor of the ovary Stage 1C because the 15cm 10cm 7.5cm capsule had ruptured. In 2012 a small cyst was found and to watch it. March 2017 my neck was swollen from my thyroid. My surgery was first scheduled to remove a cyst on my ovary. I was in pain 3 days before my scheduled surgery so I went to the emergency room. I was told that I had to wait until my scheduled surgery in three days. Monday, my surgeron removed both ovaries/tumor, a full hysterectomy and oophorectomy, removal of one lymph node, the omentum. Diagnosed with Stage 1C because the capsule had ruptured. All samples came back clean from the hysterectomy. Chemo 12 week regiment is recommended which is the same for Stage IV patients. My family and I are confused on the issue to follow with BEP chemo. Is there another treatment or do observation? Do you have any data to support that chemo could lesson my risk of recurrence for this rare cancer- sex cord-stromal tumor of the ovary? Percentage of recurrence? What happens if I wait and I don't do chemo until they find something growing and then do chemo?
