I had my laparotomy last Thursday and was discharged Sunday. I would have been discharged Saturday but I was running a fever and vomiting from a being given way too much morphine. I'm pretty petite and they had a every 15 minute drip of morphine running into me....way too much. My doc says average time in the hospital is two nights.
Hi, Thanks so much for your advise and well wishes.
Take Care and God bless you!

By the way GOOD LUCK! I pray that everything works out the way you would like it too!
Hi I stayed 3 days but I had complications urinating after surgery so they had to keep putting a catheter in. (I had my right ovary removed laparotomy)
So sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Please let us know if there's anything that we can help with. Regardless of geography, you'll find most of the women here to be extremely experienced and helpful. There are more than a few of us who have been diagnosed with ovca and would gladly serve as sounding boards for you. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
peace,
Anne
Hi,
I am recovering from a hysterectomy that I had on the 19th of this month. My hostpital stay was just 3 days. I was told that I had fibroid tumors, too. After surgery, coming too, I was told by a weepy fiance and my doctor that I have stage IV ovarian cancer. I too, never had children and wanted to salvage my baby making parts with hopes that one day I too would become a mom. I have always been plagued with ovarian cysts and painful periods. I am going through a gammit of emotions now. Anger is first and foremost. I want to know why no mention was ever made to me that I was a possible candidate for ovarian cancer. Now that it is almost too late, I am faced with trying to scramble for my life and having to educate myself and change my whole lifestyle, plus I have no insurance. My suggestion to you is that you must let go of the hope of ever becoming a mom and do whatever needs to be done to preserve your own life. Otherwise, you might end up like me.
Best of luck to you!
Hi Liz
My heart goes out to you during this difficult time in your life, I am so sorry you are going through this. What did your doc tell you he thought it looked like before your surgery did you have a sono or MRI? Like you I have no insurance either - I applied for Medicaid did you try that? I have been without a job for 2 years. I will be praying for you everyday, this is a great website the ladies have been very helpful , we are here for you. Please let us know how you are . God bless you! I wish I can give you a big hug ! Yes, I am trying to except the fact that I most likely won't be a mom , as you know it is such a major loss,I will take your advise and try to preserve my life like you.
God be with you,

Hi Ladies,
Thank You both for your advise.

Everyone is different, but the average is about 4 days, however don't worry if you are longer sometimes docs keep you in a little longer deliberatley to ensure you rest properley, this is especially true if you have a family and run around alot.
You should expect to be in the hospital for about 4 days post-op. Barring any complications, it's pretty much the same for a hysterectomy. I've only heard of one instance of a surgeon NOT sending out whatever was removed for a biopsy. The norm is for them to send it to pathology for a frozen section...report sent back to the o.r. It does take several weeks to get back the final studies. Every doctor and hospital has their own routines, but I'm sure that yours will be able to explain their procedures to you. If they don't, please don't be afraid to ask them. In fact, start putting together a list of questions that you want them to answer. Sometimes we forget what we need to know when we're in the heat of the moment during exams. Please keep us posted.
peace,
Anne
