I looked at mums notes.....

I know I shouldn't have but they left mums notes in the chemo room today, so I had a peek. Her CT scan results were in there from the scan she had after 3 chemo sessions and it said:
'left lobe lesion in liver has shrunk from 17mm to 9mm, showing response to treatment. No other areas in abdomen or pelvis. Just localized in the one area in liver. No disease progression. Showing a response to the chemo'

I am pleased with what I read. The pelvic masses have gone and the the disease hasn't got worse.

Mum had another reaction to the carboplatin today but they stopped and waited an hour and carried on with it and she was fine so she had it all today.

5 treatments down 1 to go.

Please do not feel bad. You have every right to see what is in those notes. Now aren't you glad you did? I am happy that you got such good news. It would seem that all is going well and I hope that it continues to go just as well.
I wish the best of luck to your mum.

By law, under HIPAA, your Mum has the right to a copy of her entire medical records.  They are her property.  It would be helpful if you had a power of attorney, then the right can be your's as well.  Make sure your name is indicated on her chart as someone with whom the staff can discuss her condition.  I have a complete copy of all of my records, even office notes.

Bravo Kid!  Being pro-active when it comes to medical treatment of yourself and family is always a good thing....especially when one reads good news!  Knowledge is power and this is definately a time in one's life where knowledge is important!
I am glad to hear you found good news in that report and your mom must be pleased as well.
I always get copies of  test results for my own file  so I can review at my leisure.  I do think that is a good idea.  Good luck to you and your mum....please give her my best.
Peace.

I'm so glad you took a look at the notes!  It makes me feel great knowing the findings, so you must feel very relieved. I want this to be just the first of many bits of good news. Love to you and your mum, Marie

I am so pleased that things are going well I agree we should know more about our treatment and our family that we are caregivers for. I reacted to carbo 2 weeks ago and didn't ask the dr. why we couldn't do it slower. Now I will be getting cytoxan with the gemzar & am worried about that. Still can;t find that combo. It is wonderful that you are so helpful to your mum.   donna

You do have the right to read ALL reports written , charts and such are guarded by medical personel, but if you insist they will be opened for you.  Leslee and her hubby read all reports each time after a treatment of any kind, scans, blood work, infusions and then they ask for photo copies, they have a complete file  of all.  They will use excuses like "you won't understand it",  " that is private info", "it is against our policy" none of which is true.  The only records that are protected by law are reports that could "harm" the patient.
