I had a port IPand after the third treatment had seveere pain I was give a medication for nueopathy it seemed the port was sitting near some nerves I can't say what is gong on with your mother but issues do arise. I was able to complete all nine IP infusions originally I was going to have 12 but nine was enough.
good luck
Her port should not be hurting her.....your mom's oncology team should be notified of her situation and should be able to figure out what is going on.
I finished my chemo in October of 2005......I still have my port (I get it flushed every 6 - 8 weeks) and it doesn't hurt, nor did it ever hurt (except when it was put in!). I intend to keep mine until I am five years out.....
Please do contact your mom's oncology team and insist they remedy the situation.....having cancer and getting chemo is enough to deal with .....her port should be the last thing she needs to worry about.
Please give your mom my best.....good luck to you and your family.
Peace.

do you still have your IP port or an IV port or both. I am interested because I was told the IP port could not stay in as long. I had my IP port out soon and then requested the IV port out at one year. I hated them. They weren't a big problem just a constant reminder.
My I/P port would hurt if I twisted wrong. It was big and was attched to my rib. Moving wrong made it feel like it was stuck between two ribs a little. I would have to stretch and wriggle around until it went back in place. I had it removed 5 months after I/P chemo ended. I never had an I/V port. Marie
My IP port was uncomfortable as well. I wouldn't say it was painful but it didn't feel comfortable either. I found that it was more uncomfortable when I was in certain positions. They do shift so that could be the problem.
I think it's tough to say if prolonging the IP chemo will alter her prognosis. I was supposed to start IP chemo exactly 4 weeks after my initial surgery (full hysterectomy and bowel resection) but I experienced so many complications that had me in and out of the hospital that I didn't start it until 7 weeks after my surgery. I don't think it made a difference.
Best of luck, Deandra
