ovarian cancer or not?

Hi, I have just recently found out that I have a 2.9cm complex hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. I also have to enlaged lymph nodes on left side, one in groin and one in axilla. axilla lymph was ultrasound and doctor does not seemed worried. We continue to whatch it once a year. I am 25 years old with two children, i used to take birth control pills but have not for one year. I am small in frame as I weigh 109lbs . Have not yet been able to discuss these results with my physician, but am extremely worried that this may be ovarian cancer. I do not have complete family history as my father is adopted. What are your thoughts.

ok here's an update.
I have since met with an ob/gyn he want to reexamine the ultrasound using saline during the transvaginal ultrasound. First ultrasound stated there was no evidence of doppler flow to the cyst. Is this good or bad?

Hello:  I see you don't have your complete family history since your father was adopted.  I was adopted when I was five days old and I have found my birth mother 16 years ago and my birth father 10 years ago.  I know how very important it is to have that medical information from the past.  I haven't done this in awhile, but I use to help people find their biological families.  If you would like some help in doing so, please let me know.  You can email me at ***@**** or ***@****.

I just had a scare with a 7.5x11.2x8.9 cm mass on/around my left ovary.  Had me scared to death, because the doctor said we were going in and treating this as CANCER.  Had surgery on the 22 of this month and everything was just fine.  Had lots of scar tissue that was causing lots of the pain.

I wish you the best of luck and left me know if I can help you out.  Take care.

The size of your cyst is not a red flag.  Most complex cysts do turn out to benign.  But, if I were in your position, I woudl want to know the reason for the enlarged lymph nodes.  Sometimes, things can't be explained.  But, hopefully, your doctor will run blood tests and a MRI to get a better idea of what is going on.

Personally, I would expect your ovarian mass to be much larger if it were causing your enlarged lymph nodes.  Most ovarian cancer preesents with a tumor larger than 5cm.  But, you really need to keep pressing for answers from your doctors to be sure.  Most ovarian cancer is not genetic.  But, there is a small number of women who do have a genetic component to their cancer.  I hope you find answers soon!
