LEFT ADNEXAL HETERGENOUS MASS FOUND TODAY, I'M SCARED??

I had a CT scan today of my pelvis and abdomen, due to excessive pain on my left side.  This test was ordered by my gastroenterologist.  I was diagnosed with Irritable bowel syndrome and esophageal reflux 10 years ago.  I also underwent a partial hysterectomy 4 years ago due to very very painful fibroids. Since that time, I have been doing fine.  Now this.  Has anyone else experienced this?? I am being scheduled for a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound, hopefully within the next few days.  After that I will see my GYN doctor, and then I will have a Upper GI done.

Thanks for all input???

My age is 43

I don't think so-I have had IBS for about 10 years now, the GERD was only recently found.  My brother died of metastic esopjhageal cancer in Dec. '03 and I have been having some issues (heartburn and feeling ike my food was always in my throat)-so they did the upper GI this past Dec. and found it.  My GI dr said I should be on Nexium.  It has helped all of that.  But I do know that cysts (depending on how large they are and where they are) they can cause upset stomach and GI problems.

Just curious....is it because of the cyst that you guys suffer from GERD and IBS?

A few weeks ago during my check up and Pap smear they found a mass so I was scheduled for an ultrasound and it showed up as a large mass of something so I was sent for a follow up today.  I was told first a CT scan would be scheduled and then a biopsy.  The Dr said that at my age, 64, my odds were 1 out of 10 that it could be cancerous.  Could not tell if it was on my ovary or colon.  I was also diagnosed with IBS and have acid reflux about a year ago.
All of this would not be as bad and scary if I were not on oxygen and can not be put to sleep for surgery because of the fear of being on a ventilator.  I don't think I was able to hear and understand half of what was said today.  She said they would want me to go to the Baptist hospital 60 miles away.
I just found this site a few minutes ago so maybe we can all learn from each other.

I was diagnosed (after a CT of abdomen and pelvis) with a left adnexal mass of approx. 2.3CM.  I was having alot of diarrhea and upset stomach-so my primary care Dr had ordered the CT after all of the other tests (stool and bloodwork) came back normal.  He didn't have a clue as to what could be wrong.  When he gave me the results of my CT-he told me to follow-up with my GYN-well when I called them they got me right in-and exactly 2 weeks after the CT scan-I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound (it shows so much!)-and the mass (tumor whatever it is) had grown to 3.5 CM in only 2 weeks!  They suspect it is a dermoid-but they also found a smaller one on my right ovary.  i have a history of every type of cancer there is in my family-so I am having a total hysterectomy on Aug 16th.  It's worriesome just because they never know for sure until they do the biopsy-but my Dr. is wonderful, and I trust him.  One reassuring fact is that ovca doesn't tend to grow that fast.  I also have IBS and GERD-but with the pain I was having in my pelvic area, pressure, a small amount of blood in my urine and the GI stuff-they thought it best to check out my GYN stuff-good thing.  I am 42.  Good luck-and be PERSISTANT!!!  Don't let them lollygag around-especially if you are in pain!  Good luck-keep us posted :-)
