FRIDAY'S NEWS:
Sorry I did not post yesterday, but it was a crazy day around my house. Gail found out yesterday that she is not going to have to have surgery to remove the blood clot. Her oncologist messed up and it is not one big blood clot, but several little ones. They are going to treat it with medication. They also informed her that NO one with cancer should EVER be put on coumiden (sp)!!!! They immediately took her off of that and are putting her back on shots (soory, I forgot the name of the med). They are very hopeful that the meds will take care of things.
TODAY'S NEWS:
Ok, I just got a text from Gail, and she is going to go into surgery today to put a filter into her lung (to prevent another clot from happening). She said it should be a fairly easy, quick surgery. She said that they will be going in through a vein in her neck to place the filter. She said that they believe the meds have started working and she should be home on Sunday or Monday. Just keep up your prayers. They are definately working!!!! Kasie
Yes, getting this to the top again.
I am praying for Gail. Sending her lots of love-Helen
Just want to get this back to top of forum. Please let us know how Gail is doing.
All cancers have increased risk of DVT's also quite frequently a DVT comes before someone is diagnosed and makes one suspicious of a cancer somewhere. Shannon
This is the third person I read about with a blood clot....My Onc did not warn me about possible clots from the chemo? how and what should one do to minimize or prevent this from happening?
Hope all goes well for Gail, terrible to have to deal with this on top of the cancer.
My prayers are with Gail and her friends and family.
I just read on the removal of a pulmonary embolism. It will not be an easy recovery I think it will be similiar to open heart. She is actually fortunate that they, believe it or not, diagnosed it fairy early. What I read was they could go undiagnosed for years. Thoughts are with her.
My son developed a hugh blood clot during recovery from a bowel resection, Heparin disolved it and he will be on Coumadin for life, this is controlled by pro times monthly. My thoughts and prayers are with Gail, sometimes it seems we have so many hurdles in our path, but I hold on to the phase, If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
My thoughts and prayers are with your friend Gail.
I was doing some googling on this....I found this...interesting - Ovarian Cancer can increase the risk of an embolism:
Some medical conditions. Certain cancers, especially pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancers can increase levels of substances that help blood clot, and chemotherapy further increases the risk. Women with a history of breast cancer who are taking tamoxifen or raloxifene also are at risk. High blood pressure and cardiovascular disease make clot formation more likely, as does having an inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease
Gail is in my thoughts and prayers....

Sending prayers Gails way.
Gail will be in my prayers. I was diagnosed with two pulmonary blood clots a few months back and was treated with placement of a Greenfield filter and placed on a week of Heparin; then converted over to Coumadin. My understanding is that if caught early, you can treat this medically, although you may have to accept that you are on life long Coumadin therapy. I pray for the best outcome for Gail.
