Liver mass confusion in OVCA patient....

Mum OVCA stage 3 March 2005, remission currently BUT with liver mass.

We were told by one Dr the liver mass might be cancer returned but then another person has said that as mums CA125 is only 31 (was 512 when first ill March 2005) it couldn't be cancer in the liver.
We were also told that as mum didn't have any symptoms and that it was an isolated mass in the liver its unlikely to be cancer.

We feel that we are going round in circles and don't know what to do.

Can anyone shed any light on this.

Mum had an MRI scan last week and we get the results of that on tuesday.

Thanks

Hello... I had a lump in my liver and was told for 2 years that it was a malignant tumour. Now... 2 years down the track, the lump hasn't changed and now they say it's benign. Bit of a worry for 2 years, but however the outcome is good now. If your Mum has a malignant mass, they can treat it, but there is a chance that it could be benign. Hopefully they will able to shed some more light on the matter after the tests. I hope all is good for her, as she seems to be doing really well. My Oncol. tells me that many people have little 'glitches' in/on their livers, so it doesn't necessarily mean it's cancer.
Wishing your Mum all the best, and looking for good news for you.  Hugs...Helen..

I've had a 'thing' on my liver for six years now. (have had OVCA for 7 years) and obviously they keep a very close eye on it suspecting a tumor.  It hasn't changed at all since they first saw it - so guessing it is a cyst.

You need all the tests to be done and then talk with your mom's doctors.  I know what it is like when they are not talking to you, but they tend to do that when they don't know.  I had a tumor that they could not tell if it was liver, diaphram or lung.  It was found on CT scan, and then they did a PET scan to determine if it was cancer - mine was.  I had a second surgery and ended up having the tumor scraped off the liver and the diaphram resected in 2 areas.  There is literature that supports second surgery.  My Gyn/Onc related that it was cells that microscopic and missed with the initial debulking.  I cannont help with a CA 125 answer, because mine has has only increased immediately after surgery and then goes down to single numbers very quickly.  Please hang in there, know that they are doing the best they can for your mom, and I know you feel helpless, and really want to help her.  She knows that too.  Tuesday they should have more information, if not ask about a PET scan.  Think positive thoughts.
