Lost 10 pounds 6 days post op ??? Ok?

I had my laparotomy on 10/18/06.  My Dr. did a vertical incision from pelvic bone past belly button.  I have lost 10lbs in 6 days is that normal?

I would think that's normal...fantastic even!!
Considering the size (didn't you say melon) and contents
liquid and whatever else that would definately be in that range.
And also don't forget you probably aren't eating a full diet
(meaning real size portions) yet...
Get shopping!!
Good Luck

Absolutely normal!  I wouldn't worry about it and you will probably lose more!

Best of luck

I had a 24cm cyst and a few other bits and bobs removed and lost about 18lbs, but couldn't eat much for a few days because I had my bowel 'messed' with, so I would say it's about right.

Hi Mary,
everthing went extremely well. I'm suitable for surgery and the doctor was pretty hopeful about getting it all out - Yeahhhh

It's on my stomach and liver so I'll be having surface striping of both and gall bladder and spleen out, the PMP gets in the nooks and crannies behind them if it's on the liver and stomach. There's a very small amount in my small bowel and hopefully it can be 'burnt' off rather than a bowel resection so hopefully no ileostomy. I'll be having a large bowel resection with only a very slim chance of a colostomy. There's a load of PMP in my pelvic area which I knew about, I think I've only got my uterus left down there to take out! Full peritoneal stripping and nicely finished off with heated chemo for 2 hours. I'll be comletely hollow, PMP-free and expect to loose a lot of weight!

It should be all happening in Jan/Feb time, there's no rush because Pseudomyxoma is very slow growing and it's pretty normal for it to be 6 months after previous major surgery so you have a chance to heal.

I can't wait!

Lisa.
