Mom for clinical trial

We spoke today with the nurse regarding the clinical trial for my Moms recurrence that her doctor recommended (MORAB 003).  She  is platinum sensitive being 9 months in remission after carbo/taxotere and not symptomatic with a fairly clean CT scan (lymph nodes slightly enlarged, but still normal size range)
which is what  this trial is looking for.  This protocal is to delay remission for women that have only a rise in their  CA-125.
Its for 9 weeks and once a  week.  Its not chemo but a monoclonal antibody through  IV.  Before she enters  they do another CA-125, CT scan and EKG.  I dont think she is ready for chemo yet being that the recurrence is not agressive and is very early.  I think they want to delay it as much as possible hopefuly past the one year mark.  I realy hope so.  Thanks for everyones advise on my previous posts.

I think I would have done this if I was in your mother's situation (your mother having minimal activity). Let's hope that it works for her. I never like to lean anyone on a decision because what works for one may not work for another. And if it didn't work I would feel so guilty.  These antibody trials are working with women. And you know, your mother will be closely watched. And, as Jatoo said she can always switch. All my best-Helen

Hi Jatoo, Good news  for your Wife.  Very nice to hear that the ca-125 is going down.

Im very excited about this new clinical trial that my Mom is about to begin.  I also found out today that if this drug is able to keep ca-125 down and a good quality life, my Mom will be able to stay on it long term.  This sounds very good and hopefuly something new in the ovca research.  Being this is a new drug, for now its only offered for those with a first relapse BUT from all the reading I've done plus speaking with a nurse it seems like their ultimate goal is to use this drug for all women by controlling their recurrences.

I hope and pray that it will meet their goals.

Please keep us in your prayers

Dear Fiana:

I wanted to post to you earlier to say that this sounds like a good decision. You can always withdraw her from the trial anyway once she needs Carbo/Taxol.

I will pray for your mom that she extends her remission.

Jatoo
