I'm so confused

I went to the doctor in August told her I was having pain in my sudden pain in my pelvic area, almost as if I was in labor. It would happen at anytime. She told me she didn't see anything abnormal with the pap. She ordered an ultrasound. Before I could get the results from her, she left the practice. So, I met with the new doctor replacing her and she said, "Oh, you have a small cyst on your ovary it's nothing to worry about", not even knowing that my mother and my grandmother died of Ovarian Cancer, That was in Sept. Now I still have pain and wanting to go elsewhere. I pick up my sono report from the office and this is what it says. My uterus measures 38.0cmx4.5cmx4.7cm. The fundus is smooth and contour and the uterine myometrium is of homogeneous echotexture. My left ovary measures 8.4cm cc dimensions and 5,2 in anterior and posterior dimensions. There is a simple cyst on my left ovary measuring 6.1cm. What does all this mean? please help.

Where I live the tech that does the transvaginal, x-rays, etc. isn't the one that tells you "everything looks fine". It's GOT to be the doctor that tells you this, NOT the tech. Before the doctor gets the results a radiologist that is trained to read the pictures is the one that tells the doctor the results.

It is possible that the cyst shrunk since then - it was in August you had the first transvaginal, am I right?

I never heard of the ovaries sitting side by side, but anything is possible.

A 6.1cm cyst is quite large. I thought mine was large (3.9 cm), but yours is much bigger than mine.

I agree with LoriLee, make an appointment to see a gync/onc doctor.

Ok, so I went to get a Transvaginal today, and the tech says everything looks fine. She says she doesn't see a cyst and she also said"your ovaries sit side by side, i can fit them on the screen at the same time". I'm concerned, how can my cyst go from 6.1 cm to nothing much at all. Also, why am I still in pain and why do I always have nausea. Could she be wrong, can your ovaries sit side by side or was she actually looking at something else.

The sono report says 6.1cm. I'm scheduled to take another one on Wed. I am seeing a gyn now, at first i was seeing a regular doctor and she obviously didn't know what she was talking about.

Make sure you go to a gyncologist and not a regular doctor to take care of this. Even a gync/onc would be better. Don't let them give you the runaround. and tell them you want straight answers now and what needs to be done.

Are you sure that the measurements were CM not MM.  If so, I'd get a new Dr. ASAP.  Cysts bigger than 5 cm are usually surgically removed or very closely followed up on.  I hope someoen else repsonds also, because I could very well be wrong, but you should not just be blown off.
