Nueropathy

I acquired Nueropathy in my feet and hands from Carbo/Taxol Chemo treatments last spring.  I currently take alphlipoic acid, vitamin B12 & B6.  Has anyone found anything else that lessons the symtoms of this?  I recently started the Topotecan/Thalidomide course which could add to this problem.

I saw on another post of yours, that you take a Nerve Support Formula that made the neuropathy go away....what was that and how much did you take?

Did your neuropathy go away and how long did it take?  If not, how do you compete and play Tennis with numb feet.  It seems like the farther I walk, the number the feet get.  I will certainly try the L-Glutimin.  I tried acupuncture and it helped enough to be able to wear some shoes without going balistic.

I had bad nueropathy from 9 rounds of IP chemo and6 rounds of IV.  But to this day I take 30 Grams of L-Glutimin in juice  I take 15 grams in the morning and 15 in afternoon.  Recommended by two physicians.  You can go on line and find the powder form  PILLS  DO NOT WORK  you can't take enough.  I will always take it because I believe the nueropathy has increased when not on it.  I wish I had taken it during chemo many things would have been better.

I will check into the "donkey poo" glutamine Monday.  LOL  If it will help this I can stand the taste.  Marie

It took over a year for the neuropathy to go away.  I had just tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. Nothing too bad and I learned to get used to it.  The B6 didn't seem to help.  What I have now is more intense and is associated with touching anything cool or being in a cool place.  Sometimes it is like the buzz of an electric shock.  I hope it doesn't worsen with each cycle.  I have only had 2 so far!!  Marie

Please research a powder called glutamine.  It is naturally produced in the intestines, and gets killed by chemo.  It helped my neuropathy a lot during chemo.  It's tasteless; you can mix it with juice or pudding, etc.  Except during chemo!  Then for some reason it tastes like, uh, donkey poo.

How long did it take you to get over the neuropathy the first time?  The drug you mentioned is for the pain associated with the neuropathy, I don't really have pain, just numbness and tingling.  What is yours like?

My onc just has me on B6.  I had just gotten over the neuropathy from first line treatment whan I had to go on more chemo.  The neuropathy is awful now from the oxiliplatin.  I remember a few people here mentioning a drug called neurontin or neurotin, something like that. I may need to ask about it if I get any worse.  Good luck with your new course of treatment.  marie
