Ovarian Cyst Pain

Hey, I was wondering if someone could answer my question about an ovarian cyst I have. I have been asking doctors galore but no one seems to be giving me a straight answer and the answers I have been given fluctuate a great deal.

I am 19 and was diagnosed with a 7 cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary about a month ago. I noticed it about two weeks prior to being diagnosed because I could feel a bump on my abdomen and I was having a lot of pain in my lower back, in my abdomen and down my right leg. At the time I was diagnosed, I was given an anti-inflammatory and some medication equivalent to regular Tylenol.  The pain continued to be about a constant 5, fluctuating up and down. Sometimes it felt like a knife was being stabbed into me but not very often.

I recently went to the ER about a week ago because the pain was getting more severe. They discovered that the cyst was actually going down and now was around 5 cm, so they gave me Percocet. The pain persisted, so the next day I went to see a gynecologist. She said, because the cyst is shrinking, there is nothing they can do and prescribed me an even stronger anti-inflammatory.

Now, in the last few days, the pain has been getting close to unbearable. It feels like there is always a knife being stuck into my ovary and I have a lot of pain in my right leg and lower back. What is this pain?? Does this happen because the cyst is shrinking, or is it getting worse...? No one will give me an answer and I am starting to get really frustrated as it is affecting my work and school. Does anyone have any answers or similar things that have been happening to them?

Thank you!!

My gynecologist said anything over 5 cm needs to be surgically removed.  If they don't want to remove it, I would push for better pain management.

With my first cystectomy, the doctors did not see a cyst the size of a grapefruit in my left ovary. This could be a possibility? Although I did not have any pain in my legs and rarely in my back. The fluid leaking out of the cyst as it shrinks could also be irritating your body, maybe ask if that could be the source of the pain!
