Ovarian Pain and Right Flank Pain for months...

Hi! I'm so glad I found this site and I hope someone "might" have a thought on what i've been dealing with. Feb 05' I called my family doc and told him I thought I had a kidney infection because of right side flank pain. They found a 10cm cyst on my right ovary which 3 days later they removed laproscopy. A month after my right flank pain returned and when I am due for my menstrual cycle my flank pain "thumps" even worse. I have this daily but the night before my period is due - it hurts bad! I am scheduled for another laproscopy on Friday because the new gyn who took the time to open my file said that she "thinks" something is attached to either the ureter or the bladder??? I've been to a urologist and had an IVP and he said my right kidney is "fine" ..... he wasn't very nice and made me feel like an idiot. The past few days I've been getting sharp pains in the ovary area and now my right leg and groin are numb and like a pulling sensation. UGH.....HELP?!

I have the same pain!   My sono was fine, so was my CT.   First time I had the pain I had a bleeding cyst.  This time - it was the same pain, but no cyst, so I'm wondering if it was a misdiagnosis during the first episode.   The pain hurts worse during my menstrual cycle.  During the worse pain I have nocturia (have to go to the bathroom 3-5 times a night) and also a bit more during the day.  My urologist made me feel like an idiot as well - - I have learned you have to do your own research and be your own advocate.  On that note - I have been reading a lot about Interstitial Cystitis - - you guys may want to check it out if you have similar symptoms.  A lot of urologists miss it because it is now just becoming known in their industry, and research has shown that a lot of women aren't diagnosed with it for 4 years because their physicians miss the symptoms.  The woman that can be credited for making it more well known in the industry was a med student that discussed it with her physician, who kept telling her she was wrong and wouldn't cut it in med school.  She turned out to be right (and is a physician now - so he was wrong on both counts!), and she is now is an advocate for the disease and a hero in my eyes!

Hi so glad I found this forum -

I have a terrbile stabbing pain in my lower right back for a few days just before my period is due, also I have a strange numbness at the top of my thighs deep into my buttocks.

My periods are last approx 2 weeks now too - are these signs of cysts?

I, too, have pain that radiates into the groin area causing numbness in the top of my thigh. I have cyst on my left and right ovary with a solid mass in the left.  I would assume this pain is caused from the pressure of a nerve being pressed upon in that area. Just make the doctors listen to you or find one that will.

I know that frequent urination is one symptom of cysts or tumors in that area of the body.   Fibroids can also cause it.  The bladder is more or less a roundish "muscle", and I would expect anything that is pressing against it to cause problems by irritating or stimulating the muscle.  There are also other conditions that can result in this same problem, however.  Please discuss this problem with your doctor after you recover from the surgery.

Would sudden urges to urinate be a symptom of something pushing or being attached?  Sometimes I seriously have trouble making it to the toilet but that is because it hits and I have to run.  Today, I'm on a liquid diet before the procedure tomorrow..I'm nervous because I have NO definitive answer on what they are doing... looking for something attached to the ureter causing my flank pain or did another cyst grow ???

Once you've had surgery, there is a chance for adhesions or scar tissue to grow in the area of the surgery. Some surgeons implant a type of surgical mesh at the areas made "raw" by the removal of tissues to help prevent these adhesions.  It is quite possible for there to indeed be something attached to something else in there.  You will soon know.

By the way, surgery is not the only way for similar types  of adhesions to grow in the abdomen.  It can happen that women with severe endometriosis for many years  have tissues and organs in their lower abdomen in a state of being more or less 'grown together.'  It is these adhesions and their continued swelling and growth that cause the symptoms of endometriosis.

Hi there, I just read your post and I can relate to the symptoms you are experiencing.

I have a complex cyst (smaller than yours) that has been noted via u/s for over 2 years now.

I have continuously complained to my doctor of the pain.  It used to be just around mid-cycle and then when I started my period...now it is more frequent.  It feels like a sharp twisting knife pain right over my right ovary. My right inner thigh/ leg gets these numb shooting feelings in it when the pain is happening.

I have been back to my doctor several times and still no answers.  He will not remove the cyst because he says it's small.  I am going to a urologist next month for his opinion and probably another IVP- oh joy!

I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you but atleast you know there's someone else out there who has a similiar situation.
