Ovary Removal recovery

Hey I am having my ovary removed along with the 3ed dermoid in it, on March 1st. I was just wondering how many of you have had an ovary removed and gone home the same day? I have not found anyone that I know personally that has gona home the same day seems to be 3-5 days in the hospital with everyone.  Wasn't sure if they did a lap and a small incision that was the reason it was ok to go home after surgery...?  I Have about a 3" scar from the last dermoid, so I am guessing it is going to be a littel bit bigger than that.... Any info on it would be great..

Thanks
Jessy

Hello,
I will be going in within the next week to have one ovary rem to a 6 cm dermoid and both my fallopian tubes removed.  I'm so nervous and keep having nighmares about the surgery.  I have scarring from old intestinal surgeries so they have to do a laparotomy.  It is very comforting to hear that all of you ladies have recovered pretty quickly from surgery but its sad to hear that the dermoids come back so quickly.  I guess this is the reason the doctor decided to remove the ovary.  I'm only 32 and still don't have kids so I pray that my other ovary is ok so that I can try Invito.

I do not have any limitations.  Just as you say the annoying stuff. Pain here and there and still sometimes the area gets tender, but very managable.  Just annoying that it still there.  About 5 or 6 weeks after my surgery I went Seadoing (jet skiing) and it really didn't set me back. I try to ignore it as much as possible and not let it limit me.

first one a 1 1/2 years ago it took me about 2 weeks... then I had one 4 months ago and it took me about 5 weeks.... SO this should be interesting :) Spring is coming and I am huge into horses... I hope I can ride.... I know it took apx 3 months both times before I coud ride. What kind of things are you experencing now, just annoying things or still a little limited on stuff?

To me the initial pain was the same, but the recovery took longer. With the first dermoid five years prior I bounced back in less than a week.  With this one it took many weeks and now, 7 months later, I still don't feel a 100%.  I think it might be due to adhesions pulling on the area. Sometimes I swear my ovary is still there!  But everyone is different and they heal differently.  If you did well with the first surgery than chances are you will do well with this one too.  Just get that darn creature out of you for good!  Good luck!

That is just like mine, they didn't take my ovary with the 2nd one though :( they decided to see if it would come back since I was so young to have an ovary removed, 4 months later it is back bigger and more painful!

Good I think I should be heading home the same day then no problem... how was the pain different from your first surgery with just the dermoid removal compaired to the removal of the ovary.  My 2nd dermoid was the same size as your... I am not sure what this one is at right now.. I didn't even ask I am just so sick of them!

I had my left ovary removed back in June due to a second dermoid that was 5.9cm.  My surgery was done laproscopically (sp?) and I went home the same day.  My ovary and dermoid were removed from a 1 inch incision. The amount of time you stay in the hospital is dependent upon the type of surgery that is performed.  If you require a laporotomy then most likely you will be kept for 3-5 days.
