Questions about laparotomy recovery

I am scheduled to have a 7cm mature teratoma removed in two weeks, via laparotomy.  I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect regarding recovery.  I am told that I will be admitted to the hospital if my ovary is also removed, but I'm concerned about what the following days and weeks may bring in general.  I'm just wondering what to expect.  I will appreciate any input!

Hi there and welcome.  Expect to have pain from the gas that they use to expand your abdominal area.  Usually hot tea helps.  Also, sleeping in a recliner so that you are not flat on your back will help.  Try to have some stool softners available since the pain meds they give you can cause constipation.  Another thing...make sure that you take your pain medication as prescribed.  If the pain gets to a certain point, the pain meds won't work.  Try to walk a little bit each day...keep the body moving but nothing strenuous.  If you feel pain you have done too much.  I look forward to hearing from you on the Recovery side.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed
