PLT too low, Cant Continue CheMO.

Hi there, my mom was initially diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer, in which her ca125 was 3410.
She has undergone chemo, this is her 5th time now, using taxol/carbo, and her ca125 has reduced to 42.

However, she is scheduled for her last round of chemo, but the doctor refused to let her continue as her PLT was too low. I am not sure exactly what this is, but it is something to do with the bloods ability to clot itself.

If someone could provide me with some guidance or info I would greatly appreciate it.

THankyou so much

This Forum has provided me and my mom so much support and guidance throughout our situation, thankyou so much.

procrit is for red cells the platlets come back on there own or you can have a platlet transfusion.  Most times it just delays the chemo  My last round was delayed 2 weeks because my white cells where low.  so check with the doctor

did the doctor suggest s shot of Procrit to raise the platelet levels?  Probably just delayed it as Lucy says, this is fairly comman for this to happen.

Are you sure her doc hasn't delayed it?  It is not unusual at all for it to have to be delayed due to low white cells.
