Surgery Results

Hello everyone.  I got home yesterday evening and am now having trouble sleeping (being uncomfortable) so I thought I would write and let you know how everything went...

I was given my anesthesia about 10 am on Tuesday morning and rolled into the OR.  I woke up nearly 4 hours later (!) and could hardly get the words out of my mouth with all my grogginess but managed to ask 1st thing if it was cancer and thanks to God with all my heart that it was not.  I was told that when they first went with the laparoscope that the doctor could not see or find my left ovary so I had to recieve the larger incision (laparotomy).  The problem was that my left ovary was attached to the bowel wall by endometriol adhesions and a fairly large chocolate cyst.  My doctor removed that ovary and immdiately had it biopsied.  When it came back ok she then attempted to remove as much endometriosis from my bowel as she safely could.  She left the other ovary alone as that cyst was small and looked like a simple functional cyst.  I was told that I had every reason to be in the amount of pain that I was in!

She also told me that she put something on me that is supposed to help with adhesions -  I forget what this was called but will be sure to ask when I go for post-op.  Also, I'm not sure if she meant on the inside or where they made the incisions.  And I forgot to ask what stage endometriosis I was but they did not find it anywhere else (i.e. in my abdomen), so I'm thinking it was confined to the pelvis.

I am very sore and bloated and could barely get around but I am sooo relieved that this is over.  I thank all you for being there for me through my difficult time.  You have all been wonderful and extremely helpful!

That's great that it's benign and out of there.  Ths stuff for adhesions is for adhesions and not for scarring, if that helps.  You'll be feeling better soon enough.  It's great that it's over!  Those endo cysts can really take on a life of their own...! : ).

Hi!  Great news, that it is benign!!  It sounds you have exactly what I had too!  You probably have stage 4 since you had adhesions on bowels.  I too had that.  My doc removed what he could but I think it is impossible for them to get it all.  Take it easy and slow in your recovery, and once again, congrats, I am glad it is over for you!

Awesome news!!!!!!!!  I am sooo happy for you!  :)

My surgery is scheduled for September 6 and I'm hopeful I have a similar outcome.  I'm heading to Grand Cayman with my husband later this morning for a few days and then, when I get back, I've got lots of doctor appointments--along with a colonoscopy on 8/31.  I'm super nervous about the surgery and everything, so any advice you can pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Now that you're okay, make sure you get the rest you need to recover quickly and take it easy on yourself--you've been through a heck of an ordeal.
