Prognosis

My mother has just been diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer.  She has had a total hysterectomy and partial removal of her colon.  Her pathology is not yet back.  However, the doctor also told us that there is a lot of cancer spotted on her diaphragm and also on the small intestine.  Her lymph nodes were removed as well as the lining of her stomach and small intestine(????).  I had always heard that Stage III ovarian cancer is generally not survivable, but my mother's doctor told her he would giver her chemo in about 2 weeks and that that would kill off the rest of the cancer.  Is this a realistic statement?  Is this kind and stage of cancer survivable.  If not, could you give me some range of time--in months or years, perhaps--that we have left with her?  I just need to know if I should get my hopes up or prepare myself for the inevitable.  Thank you.
