Repeating the Ultrasound

I went to my OB/GYN for my yearly physical and told her I had had a UTI since MAY.  I 've been prescribed 3 antibiotics (CIPRO, SEPTRA, AND MACRODANTIN) in addition to the analgesic UTA.  My physician ordered an unltrasound which discovered a 4cm? hemmorragic cyst.  I have been very bloated, have trouble voiding, have blood in my urine, cramping and am basically exhausted.  I Have a history of ovarian cancer in my family (my great-grandmother) so I also was given a C125 test for Ovarian cancer which came back normal.  My doctor wants to repeat the ultrasound in 5 weeeks.

In your experience are most of these cycts benign and do they require surgery?

Thanks!

A cyst can cause the same symptoms you are describing, but the doctor seems to be following a wait and see procedure with you,  the CA125 test is not reliable for a correct dx of OVCA, they are doing a repeat to see if the cyst has grown any,  if it grows past 5 cm, most are removed surgically, most are benign, but with a family history you want to make sure you are dealing with a doctor that deals with this, I would like to suggest you get to an onocologist and take all your records with you. Hopefully it is benign,  but if it is cancer, get it early as possible. You didn't state your age, and if you are pre, peri or post menopause.  Did  she do an internal vaginal on you? Sometimes they order a colonoscopy.  Keep us posted and ask any questions you have, there are some very smart women on here to help you.

A hemmorhagic cyst usually goes away on it's own in a few months. When they begin to resolve, they can cause some pain, usually starting out pinpoint (and sometimes on the opposite side of the cyst) then getting diffuse and making the thighs ache. Then a couple days later, gone. I managed the pain with extra strength Tylenol.  It does sound like (if you have blood in your urine) that you are complicated by a UTI (they can be persistent). Repeating the ultrasound in five weeks is reasonable. MIne resolved in two months time.
