Petrified of ovarian cyst rupture.........

Hello!

I spoke to a friend yesterday who had an ovarian cyst rupture and I am not PETRIFIED that this will happen to me!

Is it likley that a hemoorhagic 4cm cyst will rupture? I know it stated as a complication, but how often does this actually happen.

I feel the possibility of rupture is making me put my whole life on hold. I get scared to go anywhere alone. I also live in Boston and when i am stuck in traffic I get so many fears about being stuck there and having it rupture and I won;t know what to do. I also train horses as a part time job and I have been too afraid to ride because of this.

It is making hvaing this cyst so much worse since I have stopped so many things I love. I just heard that the rupture hurts SOOOO much. Are there any symptoms before the rupture?

Thanks for your help!

This site is wonderful...I just found out I had a 30cm cyst and when I called the doctor with some questions - one of them being what is the risk of rupture??? they never called me back.  So now I'm obsessing all over the place.  Can't wait until Monday to INSIST that they answer some questions.  But it's nice to know I'm not alone - you all have the exact concerns I do.

Hello, I am an 18 year old and recently had an ovarian cyst rupture. I didn't even know I had one, But i had been having pains in that general area until finally one night during sex the pain came and stayed for about an hour or so. It's not something I would horribly scared about getting... It hurt, yes, I had to sit for about 20 minutes... But it was completely bearable. After that I went to bed and by the time I woke up I didn't really feel it anymore. I really don't think it's something you should let put your life on hold. I do find having a cyst rather annoying though, and hope I won't get anymore.

I'm on my fourth cyst.  The first one I didn't even no I had until it ruptured, but now when they get up in size I can feel them and they are more than irritating.  It doesn't help being active duty army and fellow Soldiers don't understand your "aliens".  What I don't understan is why they keep coming back every other month or so.  I'm 33 yrs old now and I feel that with the fibroids, cysts, and IC I am slowly becoming a host to "aliens".  What gives?

Watch and wait....

My next appointment wasn't going to be until May 31st, but I couldnt watch and wait anymore, and I'm going tomorrow. If it has not decreased in size, I am REALLY going to push for removal.

I miss being able to do jumpers, but I've contented myself with lower level hunters and working on my equitation. Plus convincing my gelding he's not retired, but just doing different stuff right now :)
Hopefully, when they remove my 'alien' on the 17th, I'll be able to go back to the jumpers.
Are they doing the 'watch and wait' or recommending removal?

Ok I feel slightly relieved. I have a hemmorhagic cyst.

I feel disappointed because I started a new horse lease today and I missed my ride because of this cyst. I am going to wait until my appointment tomorrow, and then decide what I will do.

Thanks for sharing your experienece.

I ride too (as do others that post on the board), and I understand you fears. My gyn scared me too when she mentioned that it can rupture. What kind of cyst do you have? The reason that I found mine in the first place is one edge ruptured/tore and leaked some fluid. It hurt enough to send me to the ER thinking I had appendicitis, but not enough to not be able to function. So I've gone through a bit of the pain of a rupture. It wasn't great, but it also wasn't that bad.
From what I have heard and read on this site, if you have a dermoid or endometrial cyst rupture, it can be worse because of the risk of infection. If you have a simple or hemmhoragic cyst, I have read it's not as bad since the body tends to absorb the  fluid. (I am sure someone will come correct me if I am wrong...between all of us, we have alot of info:)
My dermoid cyst was diagnosed in December, and has not ruptured. There are many women on this site who had a large cyst for years that did not rupture.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but it's not a horribly high risk.
Keep riding... my gyn warned me against jumping high (darn it) and riding for hours, but I've still been riding all this time with nothing more than an ache to tell me I overdid it.
Anything that makes you happy is better than sitting around thinking about the darn cyst.
Keep in touch, and let us know how you are doing. This site has some of the best support around.
