Ovarian Cyst Ruptured...I have questions please

Hello, and thank you for taking my questions.
First of all, I just experienced a ruptured ovarian cyst I didn't know I had.  This occurred prior to my cycle started, which this month was delayed by 6 days.  Once the cyst ruptured the cycle came 5 days later?? Needless to say, I did go to my GYN as soon as the pain hit me and they performed the pelvic exam as well as the sono and he found the fluid.  And they did a CBC.  He perscribed the pain meds and told me once my cycle came and went things should be back on course as usual, and that in 2 days I should be 99.9% better.  Well 3,4,5 days and not 99% better and the spasms were still coming, I'm at least 50% better but not where I think I should be and my cycle is now here a about gone...so I call the dr again and he tells me that yes he needed to add anitbiotics to my treatment because my White blood count was over 14k...which means I also have an infection??  So my question is infections common with these??? And the doc said I would and may be on these antibiotics from 2 to six weeks, depends on the CBC after the first 2 weeks of antibiotics.  Any information will be greatly appreciated.  I am now on pain meds, antibiotics and muscle relaxers...as well as a heating pad...this is when I'm not working...Bless you all and thank you.

I've read that ruptured cysts can sometimes require antibiotics.  Sounds like you're on the right path to recovery.

Granted, your doctor should have prescribed the antibiotics before allowing 5 or more days to pass, but maybe there was a delay with the blood work/CBC count?  Did you have fever?

I hope you feel better soon.

Sometimes a ruptured cyst will start up a peritinitis and this does raise the WBC and needs antibiotics to heal it.  Ask the doctor about the heating pad, heat draws, cold scatters. Might want to take some tylenol for any temp you get over 100.  Glad you caught this early, stick with it and it should get better after 4-5 days of antibiotics. Drink plenty of fluids. Good Luck
