Sonie~
If the wound is large enough, there's a product called A-Cell that they place into a wound that gives the new, healthy tissue something to grow onto. It was developed for people originally, and is now also used in animals (I work in horse insurance claims... we get all the new veterinary toys :)
When that stuff is used, they don't have to debride as many times, and there's little scar tissue at the end.
Just a thought... though I hear those leeches do a good job! lol

....send the kids to the swamps to get some leeches?
OK sorry Sonie just trying to make you laugh or maybe smile???
Love ya, Katie
These beads sounds like what my sister( a nurse) used on our mothers leg when she had an abcess. Mom was diabetic so these type of infections could really cause problems. This was years ago and when Mom came for a visit at my house my sister got me to continue the treatment. If they were the same thing, they soaked up the infection. Had to change and soak the abcess 2 or 3 times a day. It took time but her leg cleared up eventually. At that time these were not a big thing with the doctors but my sister had done a lot of home care nursing so knew about some things that the docs did not.
oh wow,i have never heard of this method, however,it sounds very interesting...i have mrsa infection..its a antibiotic resistant strain of staph..some antibiotics are able to fight it,but there arent many.i have a pic-line now and am on vancomycin, but i think and so do m nurses that i may be building up a tolerance to it.my nurse is calling my doctor tomorrow to see about switching me to zyvox....thank you for the suggestion,i will definatly talk to my nurse about it when she comes tomorrow.....sonie
Hi Sonie, yes this person had a PICC line AND the antibiotic beads..the beads were after many "washings" of the wound (debridement I think it's called)...again, dont' know if it';s only for bone infections but hopefully you can find out.
All the best...sorry this is so hard, you sound very very brave.
yep..its called debridment...ive had 2 in one month..the latest one being monday..my incision is completley open now,and im being packed 2 times a day...im going to ask about the beads...or the leeches....lololol
