Can anyone tell me what a Hemorrhagic Ovarian Cyst is please?

I decided to go to urgent care and get a second opinion, since I don't go for my MRI until next week now (and I'm worrying myself sick). The ultrasound revealed a 4.8 cm compex cystic mass on the right ovary "most likely to be a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst."  Anyone know what that means? I'd appreciate any helpful answers.

Thanks ladies xoxo

Hi Brilyn,
If the Tech who did the US thinks it may be a hemmorahgic, that's encouraging.  A hemmorahgic cyst happens when a functional, or simple cyst, persists beyond a cycle or two and bleeds into itself.  They tend to resolve on their own via slow leakage or the far more painful rupture.  You may not know but did the US reveal any fluid in the pelvic area?  Ask.  The US and MRI are two very different imaging techniques that reveal different things.  The US is considered the primary technique but getting both yields so much more information to your Dr.  It is next to impossible not to worry Brilyn, we all know how you feel so drop by anytime you have questions.  I am sorry you are in so much pain as it makes the wait even harder to bear!  Hang in there Brilyn!  MV

Thanks for the quick response. The US revealed no fluid. Is that good?
