What to do during recovery...

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to DO with myself for the 4-6 weeks I'm told I need to recover from surgery.  I assume the first week or so I'll feel out of it and in pain and not particularly wanting to do anything.  Does that sound about right?

I was thinking if I'm stuck in bed for the rest of the time I could read and go online (I don't have TV), but figured that would get pretty old.  Then I came across this website by pure chance.  It's called Keike's Cards and they ask for handmade cards (with envelopes but not necessarily postage) to be sent to terminally ill children.  The site says they send about 200 cards per week to children from infants up to age 18.  I've never heard of this program before, but as they aren't asking for money, I assume they are legit.  I thought maybe this would let me DO something as well as keep my mind off of myself for a while.

Don't know if this kind of post is allowed here or whatever, but wondered first of all if I've got the right idea of what I'd be able to do during recovery.  And second of all, anybody wanna make cards with me?

Here's the link...

They ask that the cards be handmade and come with envelopes.  They do not take "get well" cards because they call attention to the children's illnesses, but they welcome any other kind of card (Back to School, Happy Summer, etc).  I've never tried it, but it sure looks like fun.

Thank you for the suggestion!  I'm going to look up the website, and will be happy to join your efforts.  3 weeks post-op for me this Wednesday and I'm about ready to start braiding the dog's fur.  Getting mail is a great spirit boost.  This is a wonderful idea.

Sitting around for six weeks is just plain torture!  I was out and about at two weeks.  When I went to my 2 week post op appointment, my oncologist asked if I drove myself to which I replied in the affirmative.  She laughed and said she could't get most women out of bed at two weeks--I was slow for sure, but not bed bound.  As a nurse I know that the more you move around the faster you heal since circulation is what is needed for the body to heal itself.  So walk around, make your cards and don't be afraid of healing before the six weeks has come and gone.
