Does this sound right?

My mother went to the hospital 2 days ago becaues of vag. bleeding.  She is 62 years old.  Through a trans vag ultra found they found an 11 cm mass on her ovary.  They have her taking blood test and a CT and MRI.  They also put her in for a hyestorectomy (i dont know how to spell it) in 6 weeks.  They said that the mass is probably not cancer, probably?  What does that mean.  Why would anyone have to wait for 6 weeks to have something called probably not cancer removed.  My question is, is this normal to have to wait so long?

The ovarian masses are usually not malignant. However the risk does increase with age. I would have her referred to a gyn/oncologist who is more trained in this area, or insist one be on standby during surgery. The reason for this is they are more trained in removal and treatment of cancer. Best wishes
