Why do I need to see an Oncologist/Gyno

I have had one ovarian cyst removed a year ago (right side). Today, one year later, I went back to the gynecologist and he found two cysts.
One is 6cm(left) and the other is smaller(right). He took blood work today but told me I need to go to an oncologist/gynecologist. He is certain the cyst will have to be removed. Why do I have to go to an oncologist?!!! Does he think I have cancer? I'm only 32!!! I have no kids and I'm so scared...I can't stop crying. Why can't he just remove it like the last one? Oh God please someone answer me...

Hi Sara;
I had the same reaction about a month ago and the rollercoaster of tests is very scary. Thank God for the wonderful ladies in this forum who were comforting in the wee hours of the night but don't freek yourself out. Don't do what I did and read into things. If you are feeling healthy choose to live each day and don't let this consume you. (I'm glad I did not cancel my vacation with my family). Most cysts are benign and diagnostic test do not give definative answers.  I found the doctors, radiologists and sonographers always err on the side of caution for your best interest. I found an awesome gyn/oncologist and he explained everything to me which eased my anxiety. His physicians assistant is there to answer my questions. My surgery is in the physicians hands, my Healing is in God's Hand, and I feel very safe.

It is very stressfull having this hanging over your head especially when we want answers now. Please keep in mind most ovarain cysts are Benign> You don't specify how they described your ovarian cysts. If you don't have a copy of your sono then call your gyn and get one as you are intitled to one. Always get copies of all tests/blood work.
Since I don't know what your sonogram showed I will say that if and only if there is some suspicion that these cysts might be anything other that ordinary ovarian cysts i.e. solid/complex/septations/vascularity, than the best thing to do is have a gyn/oncologist follow you. I am not saying anything you have is cancer but studies have shown that treatment by a non gyn/oncologist for ladies who have complex cysts/mass on their ovary has a poorer outcome.
I know it's not easy but wait and see what exactly the sonogram showed. If there is any suspicion than you should have a MRI done which will be more precise and give the gyn/oncologist(if you need one only) a better picture what they are dealing with.
Wish you all the

I am sure that it is just a precaution.  If it is a complex cyst then it is better to have it removed by a gyn/onc so you are lucky to have that available to you.  Most cysts are benign but always better to air on the side of caution.  Good luck.
