abdominal mass can't be seen on ct.Why??

The abdominal/pelvic mass dr.felt can't be seen, but I'm in alot of pain and discomfort. Why would'nt ct show the mass? I went in complaining of abdominal/pelvic pain, lower back pain for approx. 4 - 5 weeks now.I'm really worried because ct is'nt seeing anything yet the pain is still going on.

Certainly give the meds for the bladder infection a try, but if you are still in pain, you need to go back to the doctor. Make an appt for a couple of days from now. That gives these meds a chance and you don't have to wait longer for an appt. if they don't work. Yes, the ER will definitely push you through. About 6 years ago, I went to the ER in extreme pain in my leg (I took about 3 different kinds of painkillers in about an hour) and first, they made me wait 6 hours even though it was 2am and no one was there and then 2nd, they did an x-ray of my ankle, didn't see anything, so just sent me home with crutches and pain meds.  Turned out I had pinched my sciatica nerve (found that out from my primary).  Most painful thing I have ever had! Still gives me trouble all the time, but now I know what it is.

Don't give up until you are satisfied you have been properly diagnosed and treated.  ER care can be very minmal, and yes, ya do get pushed through alot of times!  Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon.  Marie

I already had a transvaginal w/ my ultrasound.I finally could'nt stand the pain no more ,so I went to the er.they claim it's a bladder infection and gave to treat it.I try it but, idon't think that is what it is.My docotr already checked for that and it came back negative  for bladder infection.I think er just wanted to push me on through.because i'm still hurting.

I agree with Marie. You need to go to your gyn and request a transvaginal ultrasound. It might be possible that you had a cyst that burst and that is causing the pain but won't show up? I do know from personal experience that not everything shows up on CT's.  Let us know what happens!

I don't know why some things show on the CT and others don't.  I have tumors invading my colon wall that do not show on the CT or the PET.  Thet were found during a colonoscopy.  My tumors are low grade, so I am guessing that is why they aren't showing up.  Have you had a trans-vag ultra-sound? That might be what you need to see what is there.  Good luck to you.  Marie
