anyone with postmenopausal or perimenopausal ovarian cysts? wait and see approac

Can anyone please tell me if they have had or are following ovarian cysts and are in menopause or perimenopause. I have benign appearing cysts bilaterally although the MDs feel they should not be there because I have not been regular with my periods....I am 48. My hormones inc. estrogen appear to be that of someone who has not enered menopause. The cyst wait and see approach is so scary to me. Any ovarian cyst wait and see story would be appreciated!

Hi,

I'm 49 and just discovered I have two cysts almost 2 cm in diameter on my ovaries.  Is it possible that the fluctuation of hormones in perimenopause could cause the cyst?

Worried too. janet

Hi, I have a cyst on rt ovary, 51, on hormone replacement.  Mine was watched for about 2 years, now Dr has sent me to gyn/onc for surgery 25th of Oct...planning on getting both ovaries out and uterus.  Oh, Dr. does not seem to think the cyst is cancerous, but says there is no way to tell which ones will turn into cancer.  No history of ovarian cancer in family.  I have no pain with mine.  Any more info feel free to ask!!  Jeanne

I've had two cysts now, I'm early 40's, not perimenopausal, but have had some irregular periods maybe due to a uterine polyp. One went away on is own the other has gotten larger and is noiw septated. This has been going on since June, I've had three ultrasounds 5-6 weeks apart. I was hoping to avoid surgery completely, but my gyn says the polyp can become cancerous. Will let you know what happens. I think if the cyst isn't obviously suspicious its ok to follow it for a while.

Hi
I am 47 and on tamoxifen for prevention of a reoccurance of BC.  Beacuse of the side effects of tamoxifen, heavy periods etc., my gyn. has done quite a few ultrasounds.  I have recurring ovarian cysts on both ovaries.  Some are simple fluid filled others have been complex.  I have had one laproscopy (sp) in which they drained the cysts and everything was benign.  All the others have come and gone on their own.

Good luck with this and try not to worry, the doctors seem to know by the look of the cysts if it is okay to wait and see or if it needs immediate attention.
