benign cysts and ca125

llp
Just wondering if benign simple cysts may cause ca125 to be elevated. My ca125 is 32 and I have 2 simple cysts about 2cm in diameter on ultrasound. I'm really scared. I had the ca125 test done during my luteal phase when my doctor said it should be at its lowest point. How come mine is high end of normal? I am 35 with a family history of breast cancer and scared out of my mind that I have ovarian cancer. My doctor says not to worry, he will repeat the ultrasound in 6 months or so. Shouldn't I be following up on this ca125 result?

Usually nothing but 'wait and watch' is done when simple cysts show that are below 5cm.  Your CA125 is of no clinical importance right now.  It is a test that is useful for women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer after surgery and following a chemotherapy regime.  I had a 9cm complex mass and a CA125 of 10.  My mass was a recurrence of a tumour that was removed 16 years ago.

I think that follow up in 6 months time is reasonable.  You are being taken care of.  In the meantime try not to worry and return the focus to enjoying what life has to offer.

i repeat what scoutshadow posted you have little to worry about at the moment and your doc is keeping an eye on you even if your ca125 levels were abnormal they are not a reliable sceening test for cancer in premenopausal women.
