The Doctor didn't tell me how big the cyst was because it ruptured before he could see it. I was wondering about getting my period because I am 5 days late. Does an ruptured cyst have anything to do with getting your period. Please let me know. Thank You.
I know that when I developed my large cyst in 2004, I actually missed a monthly cycle. A cyst, especially a large cyst, on the ovary can affect the hormone production, so this could be what has happened.
I don't think that you posted your age, or whether you've had problems with cysts previously.
For the most part cysts rupture and you don't even know it. Some cause pain and some don't. It all depends on what kind of cyst it is, and how big it is.
Usually, a woman experiences pain for less than one week. However, there are other things to consider. Some people respond differently to pain. And the activities a person does during the day can affect pain levels (in other words, someone just sitting at a desk all day is less likely to be affected than someone who spends the day up and down, picking up and putting down, walking around...you get the idea.) Also, how large was the cyst? A larger cyst releases more fluid and thus the body needs more time to absorb it. Last but not least, my cousin had a cyst rupture and she experienced pain for several weeks. When she finally consulted the doctor, he said the imaging indicated the cyst still had some bleeding and would hurt until it had healed. I know; this is probably not what you wanted to read!!
