cystic mass in pelvis

I have been experiencing a lot of pelvic and abdominal pain and my family doctor gave me a prescription for bowel movement.  I told him that was not my problem and he ordered an ultrasound after I pressed him.  He said the ultrasound was unremarkable.  He thought I had an ulcer and gave me a prescription for that.  After many months, the problem was getting worse and I went back to the doctor.  Four doctors and five different prescriptions later, the problem was still not resolved.  I went for another ultrasound which said there is an 8.1 x 5.4 x 7.8 cm cystic mass in the pelvis near the uterus and it is impossible to tell whether this is right or left ovarian cyst.  After discussing the results with my family doc, he recommended going to the emergency at the hospital.  Another doctor said that that is not necessary and sent me for more tests which I am still waiting for the results of.  I have been waiting months to see an internal medicine specialist only to find out today that my doctor had referred me to the wrong type of doctor and I have to start all over again.  Does anyone have any advice or words or encouragement for me?  I am getting really frustrated with the medical system at large.  Thanks.

Keep trying to find the right Dr that will listen to you!  I was misdiagnosed for several years before I finally found some comfort.  Find a good Gyn that maybe specializes in ovarian cysts.  Good luck.

My doctor told me today that family physicians are way too quick to dismiss ovarian cysts as a cause of stomach and pelvic pain. It sounds like no one is taking your situation seriously. If you have health insurance, I would complain to them because they will pay the extra cost if you don't get the care you need as soon as you can. Best,
