Yes you are right..that is exactly what I asked them to do..buzzed the nurse and had her slow down the drip. Do believe that the body goes into a sort of shock and takes time for it to adjust...The stupid thing is that this happened on round 9 and when I went in for round 10, I warned the ONC nurse/Doc and interns that this occured the last time and that i wanted the drip to be slower this time...But stupid me and more so stupid them, no one asked which med it was...so they increased my steroids and left the speed the same!!! Needless to say, when no immediate action was taken, I stopped the drip myself, had a major fit, shed a few tears of frustration and anger and finally got it going at a slower speed!!! Will discuss this matter again on next chemo seesion and clarify my options...Thanks for the advice
Yes, you can develop resistance to Carbo and you don't want that. You can always do just the taxol now if you want. That way you save the Carbo for later on if need be.
If you think you are getting a reaction, have them slow the drip. Most of the time my oncologist said that if you are going to have a reaction to Carbo, it is usally your second time around and on the second round of that. They all don't know why but she said this happens to most women who get a reaction. So then it would be the 8th carbo.
Is it with Carbo that one can develope platinium resistant?? I am on carbo/taxol and think I am developing a reaction to one of them...last two times I started to feel an itching attack, nausea and lightheadness about 10 minutes after the drip started..I thought it was the carbo but not too sure. If this is the case, I am hoping that cranberry will put a stop to this...I am determined not to switch meds at this point!
I'm getting Carboplatin. This is my third time so this a good sign that it is still working. I did it in 2003, 2005 and now 2007. I just know that when you have recurrent disease when the numbers come down, it doesn't necesarily mean that the growth all around will be killed. The cat scans then tell a different story. We just have to keep trying.
I'm on steroids the day before, the day of chemo and then the day after so I think that is why it hits me 3 days later.
So glad to hear that the numbers are coming down...Know all about weigh gain thanks to the sterioids...Thanks for the info on cranberry, will add that to my daily intake of supplements. Interesting that the chemo hits you so much later...What else are you getting besides the taxotere?
That's great that you had a good vacation. We need to get away from it all and renew. Today I go for more chemo. The last two chemos brought my numbers down somewhat. I am happy with it. It's not a big jump but I understand this is different with recurrent disease now. It was 630 and after two treatments it is 485. So I am breathing in the good. I gained 5 pounds on vacation and also taxotere will do that cause you're on steroids for a few days. You get fluid build up with taxotere.
I am glad you are thinking positive. You have to with this insidious disease. After 10 chemos, I am sure it is hard to bounce back. Have your numbers been going down after the extended chemos?
My chemo hits me 3 days later--on the weekend and I get better in a few days.
Be well, stay well,
Helen
Welcome back...sorry to hear about Dad's 2 surgeries.,..Must have been hard on him...Hope he and your mom are doing well.
Glad to hear you had a GREAT get away...I did the same thing, went off to Phuket Island for 7 days, ate lots of seafood too as well as home made chocolate mouse and cake with nice cup of coffee...did let myself enjoy all the things I don't under chemo...Now back to chemo 10 last Friday and not rebounding as quick as before...but I think positive and rest and don't let it get me down...and like you back to less meat and more veggies and fruits!!!
How are you doing on the chemo?

How are you doing on the chemo?
I just got back last night and just went thru all my email this morning and reading posts here. My father's initial surgery went well then two days later he had a blood clot so they had to perform surgery again yesterday. Meanwhile my husband and I had to drive back to LI so I can do chemo Wednesday. My mother is in NH alone (not able to drive). I called the nurses's station and he is eating this morning. Second surgery went OK although he has weak vessels. Hopefully there won't be another clot. I will speak to him in a few minutes. UMASS is a great hospital.
Maine was great!!!!! So good to get away and the weather was beautiful. Lots of easy long hiking every day and eating seafood and homemade ice cream. Now back to the "less meat" diet and loads of vegies.
Vacations are wonderful for clearing the mind. Nice to think just about where to hike and eat out every day.
How are you doing?
