gemzar avastin cisplatin

My mother has just began her third round of chemo since diagnosis over a year ago (October 96). This time she is doing gemcitabine cistplatin and avastin all together. has anybody else done this particular combination. I've only seen research regarding these drugs for lung cancer but not for ovarian - in this exact combination - I've seen this drugs in different combinations for ovarian. She had one treatment last week and felt much sicker than she did with her first treatment (cisplatin taxol) and her second treatment (doxil). thanks for your input.

thanks - I will tell my mom to ask about oxaliplatin - haven't heard of that one. just did a quick search and see it mentioned as a treatment for colorectal cancer. I think it may be the Gemzar that's making her feel sick because I'm pretty sure she did cisplatin the first time around and was not as sick as she's feeling now.

Ask your doctor if she can change Cisplatin to Oxaliplatin. Cisplatin is a much harsher Platinum drug compared to Carboplatin and Oxaliplatin. My wife only had Gemzar and Avastin in combo and it was a relatively easy regimen. It reduced her CA 125 from 500 to 250 in just one cycle.

I have not been on this cocktail but know several survivors who have.  This appears to be a very popular combo now for ovarian cancer.  I have been on an avastin trial for 21 of 22 treatments and have had no problems with it.
