Cystic lesion in the Left Adnexa ... where is that?

Hi there,

I had a small complex cystic lesion 4cm found in the left adnexa it said likely related to the left ovary (my right ovary was removed 8 yrs ago)... my dr has been on holidays so i have not seen her since i got these results on my own from the urgent care office.

I am having quite a bit of tenderness in my lower abs center and to the left and even slightly to the lower right ... is that normal if this cyst is in the left?

Basicly i have been trying to find out where and what the left adnexa and where exactly it is located? Is it to the right of the left ovary or something as that would make sense why the tendernesss is also thru the center lower abs?

Thanks!

I dont know for sure if This is the correct forum to ask???????I had female canser 30 years ago and had a Hysterectomy when I was 20yrs old,and now the Dr report I have just read states a Adaexal Cystic. You see my husband is in the military and dispite what most people might think, for the most part we get 2nd rate medical care.I also have 3 Aneurysms 1 is a cerebral Aneurysm 1 is a splenic artery Aneursym and now there is another Aneurysm in my brain ,not one the Drs told me about ,one I found out about by going threw my records on my own.I had coiling done to the cerebral Aneurysm last summer and that was when they found the 2nd brain Aneurysm and failed to tell myself or my husband.I could go on and on ,like the splenic Aneurysm the base Drs knew about it for 2 years before I found out about ,and that was by accident.I,m sorry I guess I just needed to vent.but I found out about the adaexal cytic the same way yesterday and on my own reading threw my records.

That makes sense!

I'm the same as you cath1024! I went to the dr because I had pain in my left side (still do actually) and they found a 1.2cm cystic lesion in my left adnexa. Weird! Does anyone know what the treatment is? does this have to be surgically removed?

Hi.  I had a cyst in the same place and I had the same phrase in a CT Scan from just days ago.  The left adnexa is not the ovary, the tube or any particular organ.  The doctor explained to me that is the area of these body parts.  Adnexa - the region of the pelvis that includes the ovary, fallopian tube and surrounding broad ligament.  This descriptive phrase would work if you had ovaries or not and if you did still have an ovarie, if they could not tell on the scan whether it was actually on the ovary or just near it.  When they say ovarian cyst, it means they can see the cyst is actually on the ovary.

Thanks ladies ... just reading your replies is already making me calm down abit ... my mom is making me to to the dr tomorrow to get some stronger type of anxiety pills as i am a real mess this past week .... i have spells where im totally fine then 10 mins later im bawling me eyes out thinking i have something deathly wrong with me.

I dont have really much pain it when i press or palpliate(spelling) when i feel all this tender and soreness. The report says complex cystic lesion in left adnexa and my soreness is more in the center to the right side.

I have been searching all over for images of excatly where the ovaries are and im trying to pinpoint the exact spot on myself but im having such a hard time.

Dont laugh but approx how far to each side and how much above the pubic bone and below belly button are they?

Thanks ladies

You mention having some tenderness along with a nasty heartburn feeling. Are you having heartburn when you press on it or when you move or is it just all the time? I have a complex cyst/mass, having pulling, tenderness & this weird burning heartburn like sensation when I bend or lift anything. It's really driving me nuts. I've been to gastro drs, etc & I swear it seems to be cyst related. Just trying to find out if someone else is having the same type of thing because I don't know what to do.

I have a similair sounding situation, I think. I have a complex cyst on my left ovary/adnexa area. I'm tender on the left side and also have a "pulling" feeling over there too. Sort of like something is stuck to something else in there!

Hi Mandi what do you mean you say pulling feeling? Is it only when you press the area or do you feel sore just sitting or walking around?
Is you feeling only on the side or in the center area too?

I kind of feel like you said pulling when i press on my right side it sort of feels like a pulling feeling from something over on the other side if that makes any sense?

Do you also have any backache? I get nasty backaches both lower sides off and on which im not sure is related to this or not?

Have you see your dr about it and what was his plan with you?

Hi Cath,
My pulling feeling is sometimes there when I'm doing nothing, or when I'm moving around. I don't have a backache, but I do have this nagging ache in my left side. It doesn't spread anywhere else and it's worse if I'm gassy or bloated (sorry if TMI)I have seen my doctor.I also get a "burning" feeling on the left too. As a matter of fact this all started from my annual exam. This is a new doc for me so I explained about this ache over my left ovary. I was tender on exam on that side (nowhere else)then had a TVUS, but the tech could not see my left ovary because she said it is over too far to the left and up too high to pick up on TVUS.So the doctor immediately ordered a pelvic/abd. CT, which I had on 6/28/06.That is what picked up the complex cystic mass on my left ovary/adnexal area. I talked to my doctor yesterday morning and he wants to get a barium enema to r/o diverticulosis, then plan to remove the cyst. I told him that if I had my way, we'd be on our way to the OR to have EVERYTHING removed. That may be very drastic on my part! My CA125 was 10.1. I know everyone says that the CA125 is not a reliable test, but my doctor immediately pulled up those results when I was speaking on the phone with him. He commented "that's good, it's well within normal." So I remain confused about that, but I do think my doctor is trying to be on top of things. I'm hoping to have the BE this week, I have an appointment with him on 7/14/06. Sorry to be so lengthy. Thanks for asking about me :-)

What didn't copy to get pasted was that the uterine adnexa include the ovary and fallopian tube.

Hi,
The heartburn seems to be random thru the day , sees to be just like a hollow burning feeling in my chest area... its kinda hard to explain.

Are you guys having pain or tenderness when you press the lower ab area? My tenderness is not just on the left side but rather more so in the lower center isnt that strange if the cyst is on the left ovary/adnexa?

I am also having light period type cramping anyone else have that?
My period isnt due for another 17 days.

Hi there,

The burning that I have is burning in my left side.( Apart from that I have heartburn/indigestion, but that is from GERD and controlled with Nexium.) And yes, I do have some sharp cramping/period pain too, but my periods are so sporadic that I couldn't tell you when I'm due next. I had a cycle in April, then another one in May---for me that's regular. Also I think I've made myself more sore on the left side because I've been constantly pushing on it trying to see if I can feel anything! I did learn today that my sister had a ovarian cyst removed about five years ago. I can't believe I've been so focused on myself that I had forgotten about what she'd gone through. She doesn't remember much, except that the cyst was removed and then all was fine. I hope the same will be true for me....for all of us.
take care,
Mandi

My tenderness is not just on the left where my cyst is either. But I know if one part of your body is injured in some way, you can feel it in another part of your body, it's called "referred pain". Mine feels like a tight belt all the way across my lower abdomen. It's probably the way the nerves connect. I don't have trouble with my periods as I don't have any as I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago(kept ovaries). Thanks for both of your responses. It's nice to be able to whine to one another. I'm just so disgusted with these medical problems. But, oh well, at we're not alone with them.

Yep, would cause issues. Sometimes adnexa and ovary is interchangeable, adnexa might be a broader term to include the tube on that side and ligaments. The pain you are referring to could definitely be related, depends on the nerves being pressed upon. Also, a cystic lesion is a cyst, complex means it's not a simple bubble of fluid. Complex includes cysts that bleed into themselves and lots of other benign things.

Thanks but why does the report say seen in the left adnexa, likely related to the ovary?

Also would this cause the tenderness in the left, middle and slightly to the right lower ab?

The tenderness is only when i press lighly in those areas and im also having some nasty burning like heartbure is that also a symptom of a complex cystic lesion?

Is a complex "cystic lesion" basicly the same as a "cyst"?

Thanks
