I'm much older than you are, more than twice your age and I had a 10 cm cyst removed a few years ago. They were able to remove it via laparascope so I had 3 small incisions in my belly. Was I sore afterwards? Sure. They gave me a few pain pills to use if I needed them but I did not use them. The next day I was up walking around (slowly and carefully). Hubby took me to the book store so I could pick out a new book to entertain myself. I was mobile but the hospital gives strict instructions on what you can or cannot do for the next few weeks. An open incision will take a bit longer to heal but you will heal.

I do everything I did before: walking, hiking, working with wildlife (that includes grabbing up eagles, carrying 45 lb beaver to the deep sink to swim, hauling 50 lb sacks of food). Yes, you will get back to a normal lifestyle after recovery.

Are they planning on removing it via laparotomy or laparoscopy? I just had mine removed Thursday via robotic laparoscopy feel free to ask any questions or email me with them.
