multiple cysts formed in two months and fear

Dear ladies,

I have been worried so bad about OC recently. I am 34, and have no child.

I felt some pelvic pain for some time, and two month ago, an ultrasound test showed a debris filled cyst on my left ovary (measures 1.5*1.2*1.6 cm)

6 weeks later, I did a follow up (last week). The new ultrasound shows 4 cysts now, two on each side. Here are the results:

1. original cyst (left, measures slightly smaller than on the
prior exam. 1.4*1.3*1.0 cm, complex with low
                  level inter echoes)
2. new cyst (left, 0.7*0.7*0.5 cm)
3. new cyst (right, 0.9*1.3*0.8 cm)
4. new cyst (right, 1.2*0.8*0.7 cm)

My OB/GYN says that he believes it is not cancer-like. But I still have the pelvic pain, and am so worried about the new result. I am wondering isn't it too much to have three new cysts formed in less than two months? Could it mean the fast spreading of cancer?

Your answer or suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

I would recommend you requesting an MRI and a blood test to determine further results. There is no reason you should be waiting 6 weeks for a follow-up. Ask to be referred to a specialist if possible.

I am new to this as well, however if I can relieve you of any stress, I think maybe if the ultrasound revealed any neoplasm (abnormal cells) they would have acted faster than 6 weeks.

Hope this helps.

Dear Brilyn, Pphelps, and LindaF,

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I have PCOS in my mind too. But regarding symptoms of Polycystic ovaries, I think I do not fit. I am medium weight, no excess body hair, no hiccups, and have very regular period.

I also did a CA 125 six weeks ago, and the result is 8.

I told my OB/GYN about my concern about cancer, but he think it is a very low possibility. He suggests me to try to get pregnant, and have a follow up ultrasound three months later.

I don't know what to do. Waiting for another three months seems terrible, because I am still worried about cancer.

Try googling PCOS Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. See if maybe you have other symtoms of this.

I was going to suggest PCOS. These are very small cysts and usually caused by hormonal hiccups. Are your cycles irregular? Do you have excess facial/body hair? Do you gain weight primarily around the middle or have you always had a difficult time keeping weight off? These are some of the symptoms of PCOS - they can vary.

Would it be possible to get an onc/gyn to give you a second opinion and some piece of mind? What about the dr moderated forum on this site?
