not beat a dead horse

Hello everyone,  I posted a few times several weeks back concerning left side groin, leg, abdominal pain.  I went to my gyn and she did a pelvic exam along with my yearly pap, and did not feel anything abnormal on the left side and there was no pain associated with the exam.  She thought maybe it was gastric so I was referred to a GI doctor.  I was scheduled for November 15th.  In the meantime the pain started to occur along my iliac crest (the pelvic bone) on my left side it feels like a side ache sort of along with left side pain that is sharp and stabbing at times.  The GI office got me in yesterday, and the doctor ordered a colonoscopy and an upper gi work-up for the severe gas, bloating, heartburn, and alternating diarreah/constipation.  BUT, he did not feel that my pain was coming from my colon because he said it would not cause pain into my groin and top of thigh.  He felt that it was nerve pain.  Last week I went to the chiropractor to see if I had a back problem that would be pinching something to cause this pain, since sometimes my back aches on the left side and he thought it was GI or pelvic related because my back was fine.  This pain started in the early summer occurring only a few times a week for a few minutes and only while sitting.  Then it progressed to everyday while sitting and lying down, now it happens even while standing.  My question to all you wonderful ladies (while I go from doctor to doctor) is regarding the type of pain you felt. It is not every minute of everday, but throughout the day and night lasting from a few seconds.  It will even hurt under my ribs.  Mine seems to be a stabbing sort of pain, and my abdomen will feel sort of hot inside kind of burning.  I occasionally have sharp twinges in the ovary area but the pain is all over the left side and not just the ovary area.  Also last week I went in for a removal of a basal cell on my neck and the dermatologist felt a large pea sized hard lymph node on the back left side of my neck that he said to get checked by a doctor since he is a derm and doesn't deal with the lymph nodes.  I am starting to worry, because I get bounced from one doctor to another.  Where do I go next?  I have read the post regarding what sent each of you to the doctor, and was wondering when you felt pain was it a general ache or sharp and stabbing?  And could you pin point exactly where it hurt, and was always in the same place.  I feel discouraged and don't know what doctor to see next.  I have my colonoscopy scheduled for Thurs, but where do go from there since GI doctor didn't seem to think my pain was associated with my diarreah/constipation, gas and bloating.
Thank you everyone in advance for taking the time to help me with my questions/worries while you all already have so much to deal with.
Rachel

my symptoms were bloating, unable to eat much at a time, gas, burping ... not much pain until my stomach swelled .. and then the pain was only if I moved quickly to the right or left.  good luck

i am having the same pains on my right side. i have had two sonograms which have ruled out gynecological issues. my gyno told me to see my GI doctor (i have a history of ibs and had a colonoscopy last year), however it feels more like a nerve pain. it is a stabbing pain that started only when sitting for 5-10 seconds, but now happens when laying down or standing for 25-45 seconds at a time, a couple times a week. when it comes on, i i feel paralyzed. i fall to the ground in pain, waiting for it to go away. changing positions does not stop it. it has to subside on its own. although i do not have pain under my rib cage like you described, i feel like our symptoms are very similar. it has now been happening for about 3 months. i don't know what i should do now. if you find out what is wrong, i'd really appreciate some insight! happy thanksgiving! good luck.

Your pain sounds like it could be due to endometriosis.  I didn't get diagnosed with it until my surgery for ovarian cancer -there isn't a good way to see it without surgery.   I had years of pains like you describe that I now realize must have been part of the endometriosis.  With the ovarian cancer...I really didn't have pain on the side where it was found.  I had urinary urgency and frequency which kept me going to the dr. to check for a bladder infection.  I did have abdomen pains but not in the area of my ovarian tumor.  IBS can also cause the types of pain you are describing.    I don't think you should worry too much about ovarian cancer if all went well with your gyn exam. Good luck to you.
