ovarian cancer and groin lymph nodes

Hi everyone -
I have a solid cyst/tumor on my left ovary.  Small at 2.8cm.  I am going to the gyn/onc next week.

I am wondering - what is the likelihood of ovarian cancer spreading to the groin (inguinal) lymph nodes.  I think I read that the cancer spreads within the pelvic area and into the abdomen?   I was just wondering if anyone experienced swollen lymph nodes in the groin - especially with early stage ovarian cancer.

Thanks,
Penny

(sorry if this gets posted twice, I typed it up once and i dont know what happened to it....)

I am 23 years old and a 2.3 cm complex cystic structure was found in my right ovary.  I also feel one somewhat sore lymph node in my groin lymph node.  I just don't know what to do.  I will have a follow-up study soon and I'm very worried about this situation.  I also have symptoms such as lower back pain, some abdominal bloating, lack of appetite (maybe due to worrying) and some slight weightloss.

Hey there Penny.  Back pain is soooo common with ovarian cysts!  It seems they press on everything.  I am glad that you are seeing a gyn/onc.  Believe me, they are no strangers to what is going on inside of you.  Although 99% of ovarian cysts, tumors, and masses are benign, you are very wise to seek medical attention.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

Thanks Mary V.  I can feel lymph nodes in the groin area but they are not sore.  (I should point out I also have another illness - a chronic form of leukemia - so the nodes could be related to that.)

I have felt the nodes for at least 9 months - assumed it was the leukemia....about the same time as I have had lower back pain - which I thought was related to IBS.  Now looking back I am thinking I should have pursued the back pain earlier.

I don't seem to read that people see lymph nodes swollen with ovarian cancer.  You are right that this would be an issue for the doctor.

Did you have back pain with your tumors?

Thanks and Take Care - Penny

Welcome to the Forum PennyO!  You are one smart Cookie!  Got the appt with the onc set up and all!   Now you have to ward against the willies!  But I have to ask straight out, are your lymph nodes swollen and sore?  There are many reasons that can occur but don't be subtle about is with the ONC.  You have charted the sensible course, the ONCs have seen it all, as Tascha reminds us all!  Thank God!  You learn quick Penny so listen, you are not allowed to burn too much energy on the worry!  I forbid it!  Concern is understandable, worry while you adjust, but no panic allowed.  If you feel that way, come here!  We can help you deal with this Penny so don't freak out!  Somehow, I don't think you ever have but we are here no matter what.  I had two benign tumors (solid) along with my left ovary removed last Nov.  I am 48 so retaining the ovary was not an issue.  Is retaining fertility an objective with you Penny?  Hope to hear from you soon and welcome Penny!  Mary V
