HRT and CA125

Hi Everyone,

Well as some know me, I have been doing well post chemo, with my Ca-125 sitting steady now at 8 since finishing chemo about a year ago.  Last appt. with Onc we talked about going on some estrogen to help with hot flashes and edginess.  He thought it would be okay because of no family history of breast or ovarian cancer.  Well two months of HRT and my new Ca-125 is up to 12.5.  So what do some of you think.  I just got the results from the nurse, not sure what to do next, except to go off evomist.

I am not totally sure about this but aren't some ovarian cancers fed by estrogen?

I'm so thrilled to hear that you're doing well. Sometimes this can be a depressing column to read. : (

I kept a collapsible fan with me!  No estrogen for me.  Try Prozac instead. You might still get hot flashes, but you won't give a shoot!

Btw, the fluctuation in your CA-125 is nothing to be concerned about.
Best of luck,
Kathy

So what's next....just play the "wait and see" game again?   I can just imagine how worried you are because of the rise in your CA125, but, you are still definately in the "normal" range.
What does your onc say?  My onc told me he wouldn't get concerned unless my numbers started doubling.....I think I just might be hysterical if that started happening!
If I were you I would definately stop the estrogen.
I am glad to hear you are still feeling well and hope that continues to be the case forever.
Please do stay in touch.
Peace.

Thanks Dian,  I need to call my Onc.  I thought he might call and talk to me about the the increase but I have only talked with the nurse.  I have gone off the estrogen.  I have a Ca-125 draw scheduled in two months along with a CT.  So maybe I will wait and see if my Ca goes back down then, hopefully so.  On a personal note I am moving two hours away.  I am taking a new position in my company and starting my new job in mid June.  I am excited on one hand but also anxious.  Dian I will stay in touch.  And I pray you are doing well.  Kerry
