When I called the ob/gyn office to ask again for my report the nurse said it was no problem and someone was wrong telling me i needed a written request. Also she was shocked I didn't know anything. She said the sonographer can give me the info and the report. I had the second ultrasound done last night and the Sonographer (as they say) did tell me everything as showing me on the screen. The irregular shaped cyst they were concerned about had solid material and is shrinking so they are not concerned however the other mass is scar tissue that (in her words to me after I couldn't understand the technical term) is quite large and has formed a webbing like a spider web and is wrapped around my colon. (No wonder it feels like I'm trying to pass a bowling ball!!) She would have given me my report but said without a Doctor's signature is not valid. She said they would be calling me Monday to schedule a consultation about laser removal of the scar tissue. I will post new info as I find out.
Thanks to everyone. It really helps to get other opinions and insight. Bless you all!
That is correct; the technician is not supposed to tell the patient what is seen on the ultrasound. The technicians rarely have the training and certification to be interpreting the ultrasounds, and thus can needlessly frighten a patient, or perhaps lull a patient into thinking nothing is wrong when follow-up is necessary.
Yes, you have the right to your ultrasound report, so do not hesitate to ask for it.
Thanks that is how I feel. I have been dealing with this pain since August. It has gotten worse with each passing month. My doctor ran numerous tests and finally sent me to the ob/gyn thinking a lot of my symptoms sounded like endometriosis. The ob/gyn said everything looked and felt fine and endo wasn't considered because i don't have my uterus. But he finally agreed to send me for an ultasound. After sitting an waiting an hour feeling like I was going to burst. (drinking all that water) the technician told me to empty my bladder all she needed was to do the vaginal. The tech told me what she seen and told me that my doctor or his nurse would call me the next morning. Three days later and a visit to my GP who did not receive the results one of the office girls called and told me that I needed to get the second ultrasound in four to six weeks.
Oh and I was also told the technician should not have said anything to me. I don't understand that. If they are trusted to perform it they must know what they see. Thanks for commenting as I am so frustrated. It seem like all the posting have names or sizes and I have nothing. Thanks for caring!
What is with the wait & see. Pain is not an option! I don't think that it is up to the tech to say to come back in 6 weeks. That is what the tech told me, however my dr. wanted it out. Turns out that I had 2 softball sized dermoids, one one each ovary. Glad he did not wait. Perhaps a 2nd opinion is needed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep us posted.
