According to my doctor, PCOS actually reduces the chances of developing ovarian cancer.  The current belief of the medical establishment is that the chance of getting ovca is increased by the greater number of monthly menstrual cycles.  The belief is that having PCOS causes irregular monthly cycles and thus reduces the overall number of cycles, and thus offers protection.  Furthermore,  they also believe  that late menarche (the age of starting menstruation), having children, and taking certain birth control medications also reduce the chances of getting ovca.  Of course, medicine seems based more on less on the study du jour, so all this could change next week!
