9 year old and how to help him

my 9 year old son has mood swings like you would not believe, he has identicle twin sisters that are 5.  Example, he just got back from Washington DC with his papaw and grandma and they had a blast when he got home last night he was so excited to give his presents away that he got everyone and was telling us all about it! Then this morning when he woke up he broke down and was yelling at his sisters was crying and stomping his feet and telling everyone to leave him alone and was saying NO to us and my husband and i just looked at each other wondering where in the world this came from? He changes moods in .2 seconds???  He does not act like this when we are alone with him, nor at school or with any of the other family members if he is alone with them?? So it makes we think it is a attention issue, but we have tried to help him with this and give him so much attention and we just dont know what to do anymore or how to handle the situations, sending him to his room each time he acts out just seems to escalate things?? please help us and let us know what to do and how to handle the situtions, or give us any advice at all.

It does sound like an attention issue as you said, he had a good time giving out the gifts and was the center of attention doing that and then next day it is back to normal and could it be that the twins get more attention on a regular day.? Especially as it is not a problem anyhwre but at home, so he could be jealous of them, Focus on his positive side and give him praise when he does something good , Another idea is not to feed into the behavior as he may realise he gets attention from negative behavior. so back off any reaction when he blows up and see if it lessens and goes away whan he sees that  it doesnt work.
