Focusing

My son is 6yrs old and is having problems focusing in school. I visited his teacher this past week and she showed me a ton of work that he has not completed. Today I gave him about 4 papers of school work to do all involving writing, then i gave him four words to write each 4 times, then thats when it took him about an half hour to do, when i checked on his writing i realized he had stopped writing and was drawing and coloring.  I assume that this too is something that he does is school as well. I am struggling to find out why he is not focusing on his school work. It just not school he does it at home to. If i tell him to do something that requires him little supervision like cleaning his room, he doing something else. He also lacks self confidence. I am not sure what to do at this point.
