16 month old throws up every night

Ever since my daughter was born she has been throwing up most nights, anywhere from 1-2 times per night and about 4-5 times per week.  I've taken her to the doctor who did allergy testing and found nothing wrong.  She's a healthy eater and drinker.  But if she falls down and cries, she will throw up and if she gags from some food, she will very easily throw up.  Now when I take her to the doctor they tell me she's just a normal baby who throws up.  But they're not here.  They don't see how she's not even awake when she starts throwing up in bed.  I run in there and she has vomit all over her face because she started vomiting while she was sleeping or couldn't roll over before it started.  I've tried mylicon but it doesn't work.  However, I gave her half a tablet of childrens pepto bismol last night and she slept well.  Could a child as young as my daughter have acid reflux?

Have you ever tried reflux medication when she was younger? My baby was on baby Prevacid (by prescription) until he was 1 year old.

She could have reflux. I had the same problems with my son. After being told nothing wrong by doctors for 4 years, I eventually took him to dentist who wrote to my doctor advising investigation by a specialist. My health visitor told me he had behavioural issues with food. (He couldn't eat well due to scarring in his throat)because it was left so long undiagnosed. He has now been diagnosed with acid reflux and inflammation of the throat which has left scarring and his teeth have no enamel left on them and are very small due to acid erosion. We dont know if his second set of teeth will be affected we have to wait and see. If you feel you aint getting help from your health visitor go and ask for a referel to a specialist gastrolenterology dept from your doctor. Most of my sons symptoms happened at night too. Gagging, choking burping (now at least he can tell me) but when younger it was vomiting even when asleep. Hope you and your daughter get everything sorted.
Best wishes

I am curious as to how long this has been going on?  Also, does she have a runny nose fairly frequently?  The reason I ask is that my son (18 months old) goes through spells of this.  It can happen fairly frequently during teething (his eye teeth literally took months of back and forth), and when sleeping the excess drool can run down his throat making him vomit.  Also, for several months now he has had a non stop runny nose (turns out he has a mild dust allergy) and same thing happens.  All the mucus runs down his throat at night, and he vomits.

He also had a very nasty virus that lasted a very long time and he vomited constantly, but that doesn't sound like the case with your daughter if it's only at night.

I would bet it's either an acid reflux issue, or drool/mucus running down her throat and irritating her tummy at night.  I wouldn't hesitate to seek the opinion of another Dr.  though.  It would bother me too if there was no real explanation and it continued for so long.  Has she lost weight over it or anything?
