behavior problems in school

My son just started with kindergarden. He is in day school and day care since he was a baby.
Now 2 weeks into school, he already punched another kid in the nose, strangled another kid with a paper towl. I don't know what to do, he never had a problem with other kids. Sure everything is new for him and I am a single dad which try to get around everything, which I am not using as a exuse. I think I am also a push over dad even if I spend all my time (7/24) with him. What can I do to change this bully behavior? Could it be that he play with the wrong neighborhood kids? I am so confused right now,due to my little man never show this behavior to other childrens.

First off, thank you for answering my question.
Yes, he never express any kind of this violence before to anyone of his day care mates. His school has a conselor and i talked with him last night about it. It seems like he understud that it was wrong what he have done.
What is so confusing is that my little boy is a very great and good boy. Sure have some problems with listening and all the other stuff which everyone experience children in his age.
I try to spend as much time with him in between work, housework etc. I thought there is may something I miss, that he reacted the way he did.

This is pretty violent behavior for a 5 year old.

Is this really brand new for him - are you saying in the past,  he didn't express violence toward his classmates - or is this more an escalation of lesser aggressive moves?

Punching another child in the face,  and strangling another, is surprising aggression.  It's not like shoving,  or pinching or tussling.

I wouldn't blame this on neighborhood children.  Does his school have a counselor your trust?
