my son did this when on RITILIN and it was 2 years after starting the med we had to change the meds. It was considered a medication induced TIC but he had to see a Neurologist to be cleared for any neurological causes as well. Good LUck
I used to have this as a child and it is pretty much stress related. It is pretty common with having an alcoholic parent. I would have to say that looking for medications is a pretty unlikely source for fixing this. I'm guessing that this really could not be physiological and would be psychological.
My son is nearly 7. Very much the same problem and has been for the last 2 years. It is really frustrating. It comes and it goes with varying degrees of irritation and we have seen so many specialists and still noone can give us an answer. We have tried regular allergy drops but they are not consistent in working and a ton of other drops and medications too. Allergy tests came back negative. It is very frustrating as when they can't find a medical answer they say it must just be a "habit". I just don't believe that to be true. My son complains his eyes are "hurting" and making him blink (hard blink, lijke a quick squint). There has to be an answer about what is causing this!! It started 2 years ago with redness and constant tears in one eye, and in different phases has seen extreme redness/bloodshot eyes, to now more frquently just crazy blinking. It's good to hear he's not the only one.
Excessive eye blinking can be a sign of anxiety and/or stress. Just a possibility ...
I am sorry that I don't have anything to offer in regard to a solution, but I just wanted to say that I was slightly relieved to read your post. I just posted for the first time a few days ago about my son, and we have been going through (among other nervous habits) a blinking stage as well. Our son, too, seemed to go through a shorter phase of this excessive blinking at the beginning of the school year, but this phase seems to be much longer than last time. When we ask him about it, he says his eyes itch and hurt, but the eye doctor said that there is nothing physically wrong with his eyes. We've tried allergy medicine, drops, and regular dry-eye drops, to no avail. Hopefully, this is just another passing phase.
